Just ordered a NYC pedalboard

Talked to Mike, the owner, for about 20 min. Just about gear, the board, how stuff fits and such things. I ordered it right over the phone. I'll post pics when it comes in and I wire everything up.

For those that know the boards:
Big Shot
25" 2nd Level Riser
Black
Fulldrive Mount Plate
Wah Mount Plate

For those that don't know:

congrats

will you wire it yourself? or do you send pedals off to him and have him wire it?

You wire it yourself. Mike makes some nice boards, I have one myself. I wired it up with George L's, but I'm going to switch to soldered stuff for most pedals, and George L's for the long stretches. George L's have been giving me fits over the years. I want to just plug in and work every time.

I've got an NYC also. They're nice boards, but I need to get some glue to tack down the fabric. It started coming loose after a year or so. I suppose that's pretty typical -- can't blame Mike for that.

Re: Just ordered a NYC pedalboard

cool

i am starting to dip my toe into the water of pedal boards and am drawn to the approach that RichS uses where he attaches the pedals to the board and wires them up from the underside - no external cables to break! .. combining with a pedalsnake and i think it'dbe good to go!

the search continues!

cheers

Here is a really old picture of mine, it isn't the Big Shot model, it was the medium sized one:

DC Brick is hidden under the riser. When I redo my pedalboard I'm not sure if I'm going to keep the riser or not (it detaches with velcro). I still have all the pedals on the board, however most of them won't be on the new board.

Re: Just ordered a NYC pedalboard

They stick well if you put velcro flush on the bottom and remove any rubber feet. I didn't remove the rubber feet on any of my pedals, and some of the pedals didn't stick as well. For Boss- and Ibanez-type pedals, put a strip on the bottom and those guys won't go anywhere.

Re: Just ordered a NYC pedalboard

I could lift the entire board with any single pedal. I have the wah plate for my Wizard Wah, and the rest is straight velcro.

Re: Just ordered a NYC pedalboard

Cool. Here's mine. Under the shelf is a Pedal Power II, which is essential for a quiet running board with no ground gremlins. There's a wah platform under the Clyde Deluxe. I'm curious about why yours is coming with a Fulldrive platform? I usually remove the rubber feet, and screw the bolts all the way in. I also bought a bag of colored zipties, and am using lime green at the moment.

Re: Just ordered a NYC pedalboard

You've got some cool pedals, KGMessier. Have you played around with the order much? Those are some sweet OD units!

Also, I've found that the best glue to use for ozite fabric is the pasty glue used to lay linoleum and tile. It doesn't soak into the fabric, and is really strong.
Elmers glue, spray glue, and Superglue never really work good for ozite. It either soaks into the fabric or doesn't hold it down.

3M Industrial velcro seems to work the best, especially when you carry the board like a suitcase. The cheap Velcro sometimes comes loose.

Re: Just ordered a NYC pedalboard

Thanks, Jonesy. Insanely, I've got about a dozen other pedals that aren't pictured there. I've played around with the order, but the possibilities are endless, and at some point you've got to stop screwing around with 'em and get to playing.

Great advice on the glue and velcro. I'll have to check those out.

Keith,

How do you like the Hot Cake? Also, is the KOT worth the hype??? I have been on the waiting list for a long while now and still no word...one day I will know for myself but in the mean time I bug anybody that already knows!

Re: Just ordered a NYC pedalboard

I have the big shot too. here is mine:

The velcro doesn't do well on the midi board...the bottom is not flat. so i might have to figure something else out. on the others, it is tight. mine is the dark gray. it attracts pet hair that is hard to get off, but Mike told me the Black is worse, and he won't make the big shot with tolex like I asked. oh well, I use the shop vac to clean it up.
