Just ordered some Picks

Just put in a order for a 6pack of some Ultex Jazz IIIs and some Ultex Jazz III 2.0 Should be in later in the week.
Anybody have any experience with these? Ive played the red and black and red xl and now currently using the Ultex Sharps .73 which I love despite the clicking noise they make. I mite try a heavier gauge with maybe a rounder tip for more versatility but for anything fast and precision I love these Ultex sharps. They are very bright which I love in picks.

Re: Just ordered some Picks

Lately I've been using a buffalo horn pick. It really thick and has a thumb "notch" so its easy to hold on to. It has some taper to it as well. I don't think I will use it on everything, I've been using it with my acoustics(my electrics are packed away right now). I have been using the Dunlop Tortex .88's for many years and they work really well for me, but experimenting with different picks is always good to go. You never know what tone you can come up with. About 2 years ago I ordered a groos of picks (Tortex version) from intune guitar picks and I have been using these mostly.... They work well and last forever.

I read on another forum somewhere a guy did the same thing with a Buffalo horn and made a pick out of it. Did you make yours or buy it some where and for how much if so? I was looking at Red Bear picks after I heard Gunthrie Govan talk about em but I cant see spending $20 on pick at least not right now anyway.

I bought mine at the Montral guitar show a coupl ears ago. It's a good pick but not great. I paid $4 for it. It some things about I I like an some I don't. The tone I get is a bit warmer bu it's too hard to hold on to because it is so thick. I prefer a standard shaped pick because I tend to tuck it in and play with my fingers and ah standard shaped pick is easier for that

Re: Just ordered some Picks

Let me know how the Ultex Jazzes are. I tried a Stiffo Jazz III and an Ultex Sharp, and I loved them. Almost as much as I love my tortexes (though I'm starting to lean towards the Tortex Sharps).

Re: Just ordered some Picks

I just started using D'Andrea Delrex 347's. It's a larger jazz pick than I was using (Fender jazz). These are much nicer and easy to hold onto.

Re: Just ordered some Picks

My order just came in today and picked em up along with some DRs 10-46 gauge and some blank sheets of music manuscript. Ive been using the purple tortex 1.14mm, Ultex sharp .73, and blk Jazz III mostly. Ill say how the Ultex Jazz III and Ultex Jazz III 2.0 sound and how I like them when I try em out on my guitar and rig. I tried em out at GC but since people wanted to have a jam session/mini concert I didnt get to hear the difference to well.

From right to left: Purple Tortex 1.14mm, Ultex Sharp .73mm, Jazz III Blk stiffo, Jazz III Ultex, Ultex Jazz III 2.0mm

Re: Just ordered some Picks

So far they are great The regular Jazz 3 Ultex have a softer more round tone whereas the Jazz3 Ultex 2.0 is not as rounded off in the highs and is a lil more brighter. They have very subtle differences but are great picks. I will say the J3Utx2.0 feel awkward to hold a play. They are a lil bigger than regular Jazz 3s. I wouldnt use the regular Ultex Jazz 3 for rhythm with a lot of gain to soft and not enough highs but for leads yes. The Ultex Jazz 2.0 I would use for rhythm and lead with gain and clean but ultimately I think I will stick to my Ultex sharp .73 as my go to for right now. Jazz pics are great for lead single note work but chords not so much unless you are playing clean then yes but not with a lot of gain.
