Just re-loaded my black beauty...

Finally, the new pups i ordered are in my Gibson LP custom now...
A DD bridge and a '59 neck (gold covers)
First impressions;
I LOVE the Distortion bridge already, nice phat naturally compressed sound that sounds fantastic with high gain on rhythm playing and solo's. Harmonics leaping out of my guitar.So much better then the Gibson '57 classic that was in it :laugh2: . It does have a lot of feedback when i stand too close to my amp (dsl100) though. More even than the x2n in my ibanez. Clean sound sucks, but thats what i expected.

The '59 neck? Very clear sounding and articulate, just what i was looking for. I do think that it sounds a little shrill though, but coming from a Gibson '57 classic that sounds kinda muddy and bass-heavy i might just need to tweak my amps eq and ge-7...

I'ts wired in the spin-a-split mode, very cool i can get near the Gilmour tones with the tone rolled back, and just beef it up little by little.

But i only tried it for about an hour now, so it's time i play some more.... :headbang:

That's great man. Doesn't the DD sound somewhere on the bassy side in a LP?

No, i can't say it does, very nice balanced phat tone,just what i wanted, but as i said, it does feedback ALOT. Maybe someone else had that same problem here..?

Re: Just re-loaded my black beauty...

I have a pair of Duncan Distortions in my Les paul Standard, and I like them quite a bit....quite a bit better than the EMG's I had for years and years. I'm about to pick up a LP Custom and wondered about the Ceramic vs. Alnico 8 (Alt. 8) pick-ups/magnets. I play everything from Zeppelin to Disturbed in my band and beef and hi output is a must. I run a Soldano pre-amp and was wondering if one was better than the other to take some of the ebony fret board brightness out of a Custom without loosing any balls. I heard that the ceramics are great for pinched harmonics and other hi-gain theatrics, but what about the Alnico 8's (or any other pick-up that I've missed)?

Any advice would be super!

Re: Just re-loaded my black beauty...

I had a black beauty once. I had the same setup, with a Phat cat in the middle pos. Then I took out the Distortion and sold it thinking I would replace it, but then I ended up selling the guitar it on ebay for an even $500, but with the stock epi pickup in the bridge. Still that dude got a great deal. I do with I still had it though. But at least that money went to a all night drinking binge on new years in vegas, so I used the money wisely. lol
