Just scored a new Melody Maker

I have been looking for a light, simple, cheap $$ guitar for a while. So I am looking around eBay for maybe and old Meldoy Maker or a Jr. that has seen better days to fix up and I find a brand new in the box with Gibson USA gigbag red Melody Maker for $275 + $25 shipping with no bids. Can't beat it IMO and it ended at 11 AM EST. I love Jr's and the new MM's have a similar same vibe so I throw in the minimum bid and no one goes against it I win!

I'll throw on a Jr. guard and have a smokin little axe for cheap. Maybe even put in a lipstick tube neck pup or something.

Clips and pics next week when it arrives!

Re: Just scored a new Melody Maker

Awesome deal !! I have a red 67' MelodyMaker w/t a Duncan Mini in the
neck. It's the SG style. Hmmmm... A Lipstick in the neck? That sounds
like a plan. Maybe even a Mini in the bridge???? :32: Well good luck
with it. If it's anything like mine it's got a slim neck and plays like a charm. :)

Re: Just scored a new Melody Maker

I was looking at an old singlecut MM that had 'buckers stuffed in it for about $500 but I wasn't sure I liked how it was cut up to put in the neck pup. The old wood would've been cool though!

I've played a boatload of the new ones and they seem fairly consistent, they almost all seem to need a good fret polish and a set up and they're ready to get the snot beat out of them. I figured for $400 new they're had to be some deals out there and as luck would have it I found one.

Re: Just scored a new Melody Maker

lucky you....ive been wanting one of those....if i would ahve seen it we might have had a bidding war lol j/k

anyway, chris spedding gets a killer sound out of his old melody maker, you have to hear it (and you will soon, lol).

enjoy your new axe!

Re: Just scored a new Melody Maker

yeah, if you cant rock out on a melody maker or a juniorn, give it up.

Re: Just scored a new Melody Maker

man, before swapping out guards or anything, I would get a new bridge out of aluminum. Warmer sounds, it's what Gibson used in the 50's, and it takes away alot of that plinky thin tone assocaited w/ Gibsons when strummed acoutically.
