Just sold someone their first electric guitar

A nice Fender American Tele. They sounded really excited.

I Googled the buyer name and think that it's either an elderly guy or a teenager. In either case, I'm really excited for them.

Starting on electric with a good Tele - that just seems right to me.

These days I'm mostly unemotional about my gear, as I've gone through so darn much of it. But I really did feel good packaging up this guitar.

I hope that the buyer is in for the same awesome journey that the rest of us are on. It's one of the few times in my life I've felt responsible for something big!

Let the pickup swapping and modding games begin!!! Best wishes to a new player beginning the journey! May be the next big thing!!

That is a great feeling. Hopefully they will stick with it and make some great music we all get to hear.

Re: Just sold someone their first electric guitar

That’s cool guitar, especially for a beginner.
One thing I can’t stand though is some guys who get pi$#ed at younger players or relatively new players owning expensive/ a lot of guitars even though they may not play that well.
Guitar is all about having fun and If you or your family can afford it and you love doing it then sure buy whatever you want.
If that inspires you to pick the guitar and make music and it makes you happy then go for it and ignore people who may be envious or bitter that they can’t have what you may have.
Also guitar is a lot better addiction than drugs or booze IMO

I don't know how many *adults* who started playing guitar who have a significant other who *hates* their new endeavor. I mean, they could have taken up meth or competitive seal bashing. With guitar losing popularity, I am happy when anyone of any age starts playing.

Wow. Nice coincidence. I sold my Jackson Kelly yesterday to a coworker who's a total metalhead and he's just learning to play.

He was so excited by it, I couldn't help but smile. And BTW yes, it's that Jackson I recently mentioned that has a warped neck. But a tech compensated the frets and it plays great now. He couldn't ask for a more appropriate guitar to learn to rock on.

It's a good feeling!

Usually I'm not pro-"blues lawyer", but with this sale I started to see the upside of a beginner owning a good instrument. I'm now not surprised by so many people quitting guitar when their first guitar comes from a starter pack. Sure, it's a safer $ investment to start cheaply, but I like the idea of my buyer starting on one of Fender's best Teles, set up to perfection by one of the best techs in my town. He's not going to be fighting the instrument, unlike with most beginner guitars.

I talked to a local guy who says his wife allows his very generously appointed guitar mancave because "it keeps [him] out of the strip clubs".

Awesome. I'm glad both the guitar and your buyer got sorted out. It's sort of like foster care - you're happy when the child/pet/guitar finds a good home.

On the terms on it being a safer dollar investment if they don’t keep up with it just sell the guitar.

Very happy for you two guys. I sold an acquaintance his first guitar and help a buddy buy his first guitar and even bought his son (my godson) HIS first guitar but all three of them gave up after only a little while later... :dunno:
