Just tested the new Rocker 30 combo as I'm looking for a two-channel, small wattage amp. I have to say I'm impressed.
First up was the Natural channel. This is a clean channel with just a volume, no tone controls. I was quite surprised inherent tonal quality of this channel, whilst it's not a spanking-fender clean, it is very useable and responds directly to the kind of guitar/pups you put into it. I took my Richie Kotzen Tele along and I got some nice, fat chunky rhythm tones on the neck PUP and some snap and growl with the bridge.
Advance the volume and this thing can get pretty loud without breaking up. Enough to stand up to a drummer? Well I couldn't really say but it seemed pretty damn loud to me.
Now the gain channel. This has some serious gain on tap but to use the last quarter of the gain knob you really need to crank the volume to get the valves cooking otherwise it's pretty buzzy. Some nice all-round tones to be had, anything from 60's pop/rock to hard-rock. Can it do metal? Well I doubt it, but chucking in a OD pedal would help. Very responsive to pick attack and guitar volume.
Now some bad points:
No FX loop: Not a biggy for some people, but still not one there.
No Reverb: Again, see above.
Natural volume: Whilst the natural channel is pretty loud, the gain channel is much louder and I can't see how, if you use the gain channel with the volume up loud, that the natural channel will be able to keep up when switching between the two.
Other than that, an impressive little combo which looks good value for money. Think I might have to get one, but I'l have to sell my amp first!! :yell:
