Any thoughts on this Vodkamods mod compared to the Keeley mod?

Here is the vodkamods info on the rat. (The keeley uses the metal can LM308 as well as other mods). Not sure if Vodka does the other mods similar or the same as Keeley. Anyone know?

-NOW INCLUDES SOCKETED NE5534AP CHIP...BETTER THAN LM308

Ever heard the lore behind Rasputin's mojo? He was more than just an influential 19th century monk. That evil SOB had some serious freakin' power. Our RATsputin mod captures that evil flavor in pure PROCO style. Heavy, authoritative tone. Thick & full of mojo. The RATsputin mod by Vodka Mods is the premier stack-tone distortion available anywhere!

Many guitarists don't realize the newer RAT pedals aren't the same as the early models on which it's great reputation was built. Yeah, the ones with piercing harmonics and a thickness that penetrated. We use a recipe that revives some of that old school girth.

This mod brings the pedal back closer to the older, tighter RAT sound. Bass response is increased, giving this pedal some seriously tight low end. Mids are boosted a bit, b/c we know players using the RAT are soloing in LOUD and raw situations. And the counter-intuitive filter now is made more versatile to give you a wider range of usable tones. If you dare open this rodent up, you might even find a stray LED making it's home inside...As always, high fidelity caps and diodes only. Take a listen...

Mod Service: $55 w/ single toggle $65 with dual toggle
Kit: $20.00
Premodded Pedal: $120 single toggle & $135 dual toggle

I have the Keeley RAT, and it's awesome. It produces a distortion with rich overtones, just like a fuzz, but you can hear every note in a full-voiced chord, even with the distortion cranked up. And the "mighty mouse" mode gives you a big clean boost, which is great for fuzzing up your output tubes.

I bought a vodkamods rat. It should be here this week. Curious to compare the 2. Almost tempted to buy a keeley just to see.

FWIW - i have a custom Rat clone based on the Keeley mod, w. LM308 chip, BUT the chip is socketed, and thus, can be changed to any other chip of my liking !

I must try and get ho;ld of the (co called) better Vodka-used (5534) chip, and see how they differ !

Re: Keeley vs Vodkamods (the rat) mod in particular

I am guessing that the vodka socketed chip could be swapped easily with the LM308, right? Socketed means it does not have to be soldered? I saw the metal can LM308 chips but they look round. I wonder if it is possible to put them in wrong? I just soldered a LM308 square chip in my rat2 (not the vodkamod). I think it does sound better than before but with less gain.

Re: Keeley vs Vodkamods (the rat) mod in particular

I installed my new LM308 metal can. Compared it next to the one vodkamods uses and it smokes it baaaaaad but it is very noisy now. I compared the rectangular lm308 in a stock rat and it was not noisy. I have a rectangular lm308 coming this week so I will have a better idea of exactly the differences but I do not hear much noise from the non metal lm308 in my other rat.Anyone find the metal can lm308 to be noisier than the other lm308?
