Keep or Dump this solo??

Re: Keep or Dump this solo??

even though that my opinion probably doesn't matter. I think it sounds really good. I'd keep it. Makes me want to learn lead and stop doing rythums.

Stick to your guns. whatever works, work with it.

Re: Keep or Dump this solo??

everyones opinion matters bro. thanks for checking it out and keep rocking.

Re: Keep or Dump this solo??

oh hell yeah !!

perfect vibe for that tune ... the tones' are smokin and the riffs are impressive indeed ... it is real enough to not feel calculated, yet happenin' enough to show you are a major dude ... what effects were used? there is this cool 'hollow' thing in the 7th and 8th measure on some of the lower notes that i have never been able to cop but have always dug ...

total keeper

rock on

Re: Keep or Dump this solo??

Keeper for me too!

Reminds me a bit of Paul Gilbert..the last alternate picking run with the neck pup activated (I guess)

:)

Re: Keep or Dump this solo??

T4D- it is hard to say exactly what effects I used b/c I have a TC G-Force in the amps loop and have a lot of lead patches. That unit can have like 10 or 12 effects at one time. I know there was a little reverb and probably a little phaser. Thanks for checking it out.

Stange- You nailed it. I have been doing that neck PU fast picked runs since
I saw Gilbert do it over 20 years ago! I really like switching PUs like that in the middle of a solo. I like how it makes the runs sound smooth and fluid verus the bridge PU. I am nowhere near as good as Gilbert at picking though. I do stupid little runs and that guy plays 32nd notes up and down the neck effortlessly. He is an animal!

I like Gilbert and I also learned a lot from the guy...he is insane
I also have a TC G Force,:fingersx: great unit, professional piece of equipment for anyone serious about their effects
keep the solo, it is great!

Re: Keep or Dump this solo??

The chops are great and it is a real nice tone. There are a couple slightly 'off' notes and the ending sits a bit abrupt to my ears. It is really close, but with your chops, I think you could improve it a touch more.

Re: Keep or Dump this solo??

i hate the mindless noodling that alot of bands call solos. that was certainly not one of them. it did have some emotion and substance behind it, good work.:fing2:

Re: Keep or Dump this solo??

I'd have to hear it in the context of a song. It seemed ok, but some points seemed, without the context of a song, to be pointless tonally....

Re: Keep or Dump this solo??

it was ok. Better than I could do, but after listening to some of your other clips, I think you could clean it up a bit and definately improve on it. good start, but I think you should work on it a little more and you will be there.

Re: Keep or Dump this solo??

One thing I would say, that you might not be able to use for anything is, if you have to ask if it's good enough, because you're in doubt, is it then? I mean, if you were certain yourself that it's good, you wouldn't have to ask, and I think the most important thing is to make music that you enjoy yourself!

Like most guys, I could spend a month working on a solo trying to get "the one". I usually need someone- a bandmate, the producer, etc.... to say "You are done" before I finally move on. I can live with something not being perfect as long as it doesn't suck to my ears. Thanks for checking it out guys! Anyone else?

Re: Keep or Dump this solo??

There's nothing wrong with asking for an opinion.

I liked the solo. It has a good vibe, nice technique. The sound is cutting while still being punchy.
The one thing that bothered me was the bend/vibrato at the 16 second mark. Sounded either a little out of tune, or not quite right leading to the next note.

From just listening to your playing (I don't know you, but your playing is good), I think you could improve it a little. Actually, if you just cleaned up that bend at the 16th second mark, I would then keep it.

Good Luck.

My buddy is recording a solo CD and his guitar player quit so I got recruited. After 2 or 3 tries I came up with this solo and think it may be a keeper. It fits the song pretty good I guess. What do you guys think? I am playing all of the guitars on this track. This is the Diezel.

It is the first one

It doesn't sound like you're playing in the right key all the time....

Re: Keep or Dump this solo??

It's not a bad take, but like a few other said, there's a few things that would make me want to have another go at it. The high bends at 16 sound a little sour, and at 23-27 it sounds major over minor, but it makes it sound a little out of key. I'd choose a minor scale run in that part.

I'm nitpicking, but a producer would catch those details too.
