Kemo For Emo - Track Record (SDUGF riff from 1st competition)

Jake

5 Second Punkologist
Here's a new track of off my band's upcoming album due for release later in the year.

The main progression is a "riff" I used during the first SDUGF riff off.

Because this was recorded as a one-off thing back in November, we may actually end up re-recording this song for the album, since I'll be recording using different recording gear, and it may not "fit" together well with the other songs from a recording standpoint. That, and I think the vocals are a little too autotuned. We'll see.

Here it is: http://www.soundclick.com/jakedemos

All the guitar parts were recorded by me. I used a Fender Nashville Telecaster with a Duncan hot rails through my Marshall JCM 900 SL-X. Thanks for listening.

I like your playing Jake! I dig the Chug a lot! It's thick and punchy!
The vocals are too "common" sounding. But this is a part of the genre I think!
Great song!

Now that's some pop punk stuff right there! Well done Jake!

good playing, I dig the positive fun vibe of the song, sometimes people are SOOO serious in their songz

I knew that tone was familiar. I used to have the exact same set up, only with a 72 Tele Custom with the HR bridge. Sounds great, especially the open strummed part around 3:30. :bigok:

Well done.

Hehe, funny you should say that, since the lyrics are actually about our bassist's former cocaine addiction, which is/was quite serious.

While I didn't write the lyrics, from a musical standpoint this is the first song in this band that musically was written by me. Typically the bassist or rhythm guitarist write a song and I add stuff to it.

Thanks for the comments guys! I'm glad you guys dig it.

The auto-tuning could be more transparent in a few spots but I've heard far worse.

I actually liked it a lot. Have you been listening to Jawbreaker? It has a kind of up-tempo kiss the bottle vibe.

Re: Kemo For Emo - Track Record (SDUGF riff from 1st competition)

Pretty much. Around the time I wrote that song (last summer) I had "Dear You" on non-stop repeat. I can see the "Kiss the Bottle" comparisons for sure. I had "Bad Scene, Everybody's Fault" in the back of my mind, honestly.

My biggest gripe with the recording is I wanted to hear my lead in the last chorus come out a little more in the mix. Also, I could've done without the "suh" in the beginning of the song - but the vocalist and producer insisted on it. Oh well, can't win em all ;)

Re: Kemo For Emo - Track Record (SDUGF riff from 1st competition)

I kinda heard some Saves the Day "Shoulder To The Wheel" in there.

or am I wrong?

cool tune man!

I'd lower the gain a tad on the guitars and record the parts multiple times with different guitars, to build it up.

want the lead to be heard louder? overdub it clean.

this is how i get my tone, :(
but i think i can share some info. :beerchug:

the vocals werent bad at all. ive heard more noticeable use.

Dear You was my favourite album for years. It was actually the 2nd album I ever owned. (1st was one was Nevermind.)

You were actually the person who really introduced me to them....I mean, prior to you talking about them all I ever had were mp3's of "Chesterfield King" and "Boxcar" but never any full albums.

So perhaps a bit of thanks is due. :)

Cool. :D

Yeah, they're one of those bands that had an energy not many others have been able to capture.

Cool song. Reminds me of pre-Enema Blink 182.

The drums are lost in the mix, but I assume you'll fix that.

Heard of a Vancouver band named Gob? I think you'd like them.
