Kemper gurus explain FX vs amp names?

I'm taking my first look at Kempers and am unclear as to how induvidual fxs are represented...

On the amp side, the modeled gear is cleary identified... Ie a twin blackface or ac 30.

But from first look, are the fx more generic? I was hoping I could choose combinations of specific pedals, ie a dyna comp into a rat, and then scroll through a menu and replace the rat with a wampler to a/b sounds.

It seems like the process is there, but the fx are not named after the source pedal, ie "rat" or "dynacomp"?

Or am I missing something?

Thanks in advance!

Hmm, I'd be interested to know, too. I use a Fractal, and nothing uses the correct names, so you always have to look things up. After awhile I start to remember, at least the stuff I use a lot.

Mincer, thanks for the input... Fractal was next on my research list and now I know the answer...

Since we're down a side trail, would you mind listing top reasons u went with Fractal?

Most look generic but at least the dirt they name clearly.

It was a floor unit (no rack), and I liked the fact that they had many 'out there' effects. They also come out with a lot of updates and listen to the customers when you suggest things. Also, some of my favorite players were using Fractal, and I really liked the tone. I don't have anything against Kemper, though.

It took me a while to figure out what the effects were on my Line 6 head.
Cockney. For the most part.

Re: Kemper gurus explain FX vs amp names?

Reading Fractal and Kemper forums..."Fractal vs Kemper"...my summation read is that most after spending a lot of front end time end up settling in on just several self created presets...tweaks for specific sounds are easy when a familiar base is established....
Those that have or have extensive experience with both seem to agree that there is no saying one is better than the other...they use two different techniques and have unique operating advantages and disadvantages...one example that shows up often is Kemper samples are so accurate that if the sample is taken from an amp that has a buzz...you get that buzz...the conclusion drawn is not negative, just an example of the difference...
So if there is a specific amp you want the exact sound of a Kemper will nail it...
If there is a model of amp you want Fractal's got ya covered....

This is exactly correct.

Kemper you rely on "profiles" which are mirrors of actual amps.

Fractal lets you really tweak each amp to your heart's content and the amps in there are "based" on particular amps. Obviously, they can't use the actual amp names as that would infringe on copyright laws.

Truly, with Fractal you can really deep into the rabbit hole with what you can tweak.

And yes, *most* people will find a few presets on either of those products, and stick with those.

I had an Axe Fx II Mk II for almost a decade and recently sold all my digital gear. Went back to a basic Amp and pedals. I didn't need something so chalk full of options any more.

Thanks OG!
I was 100% modeling for 10 years or so, went back to tubes and now have quite a mix... Best tool for the job, eg?
