Killer new slide

Wattage

High Voltologist
I picked up a Mr B's Deluxe bottle neck slide last week and I can't say enough good things about it. I haven't been playing much slide as of late but I came up with a part for a new song so I figured what the heck new song, new slide. Plus I was at Gruhn's so it's a nice souvenir:9:

It's a real bottle neck so slightly more natural feel than the Dunlop 218 which I use normally, slightly thinner glass too. Great fitment, perfectly polished, nice and tuneful, I really dig it. They're serialized too so anybody steals it I can track 'em down hehe.

Re: Killer new slide

Those are nice slides watt!!!

I also like the slides Ian and crew put out at Diamond Slides.

I switched from chromed brass and plain brass to glass bottle necks a few years ago and have a hard time going back!

Enjoy that Mr B Deluxe!

Re: Killer new slide

Nice indeed. Though a bit pricey. I like how they offer different colors. I just might have to retire my Dunlop.

Re: Killer new slide

I love glass slides but hey don't last with me. The last one rolled off my head and shattered during practice. I also have thick fingers so typically I can't just walk into a music store and pick up a replacement. Right now a have a solid brass that is doing fine for me and a Dunlop Medium - short that is doing the job, but I will break it soon trust me.

Re: Killer new slide

Those look pretty cool. Pricey, sure, but you've gotta treat yourself sometimes. It's not just a colorful piece of glass, it's an extension of your hand.

I prefer the sound of glass slides, but they do make me nervous. The last time I dropped one it shattered all over the place. Make sure you invest in a decent oriental rug to protect it and enhance tone.

Re: Killer new slide

I've been fortunate enough not to break any in quite some time. When I used the thin walled glass slides it was pretty common. I rarely use a slide for live shows but when I have breaking hasn't been an issue.

There's no doubt they are a little pricey for a piece of glass but this was the right piece of glass. I don't know why but I sort of have a slide fetish! I am a halfway decent player but for how often I genuinely use a slide I have an awful lot of them :)

Re: Killer new slide

Cool!

My latest slide for acoustic is the Bigheart Robert Johnson Red Bronze. Just swampy and great on Phosphor Bronze strings!

Re: Killer new slide

Bigheart makes great slides too. I have an old heart shaped aluminum slide from them that I love, it really is the slide that I "got it" with. They don't make them anymore unfortunately.

I had a funny memory about using slide at a show. I had nowhere to put my slide after finishing a lead in a particularly crazy song so I whiped at the first person I saw in the crowd and hit Bludave right square in the middle of his chest with a big thick Dunlop glass slide, scared the crap out of him if I remember hehehehe!

Re: Killer new slide

awesome. I picked up a Dunlop glass (no 203) recently and while I can't seem to make much music with it, I can make some funny noises! I've got it on my radar to sit down with that joe walsh Gibson slide video tutorial.

Re: Killer new slide

Those look like nice slides. I've got one that looks fairly similar in terms of the glass used. It was hand blown by a local glass blower, I bought it at the local hemp fest about 4 years ago and have not used another slide since. There's just something about that thicker, nice glass that sounds worlds better than 90% of the Dunlop et al mass produced pyrex junk. I've broken so many Dunlops, but despite the fact that I've dropped my heavy slide a few times, it's never even chipped. I look every year at hemp fest for a second, but I'm not sure that guy goes anymore as I haven't seen one since I got mine.

Re: Killer new slide

that looks like a sweet slide man. might have to pick one up myself.

what options does yours have?

Re: Killer new slide

Best as I can figure mine is a Deluxe, size 9, Brown, straight, short, average weight. It's about 45mm in length. The clear one is a Dunlop 218 and that's a short Boneyard slide on the other side.

These are most of my slides, I have a few more tucked away somewhere. One of the coolest ones I have is a chrome slide that belonged to Mick Mars, it's so tiny I can't fit it on my pinky.

Re: Killer new slide

Very kewl!! I like the skull and crossbones one! How did you score the Mick Mars one?? Im a big crue head . Curious to see what Mick lays down in the future. He always hints that the crue music limits him...
only slide I have is a plain straight dunlop glass tube. and when I try to play slide, the neighborhood dogs all howl..

Re: Killer new slide

A buddy of mine got me the MM slide when he was doing a radio show with Crue some years ago

Re: Killer new slide

whats the skull and crossbones one? I used to have one just like it but it broke, so did my boneyard :(

Re: Killer new slide

While we are on the subject which finger do you use? I am a pinky man myself, no one taught me that way it just always felt right. I also like have the first 3 free for fretting and muting strings behind the slide.

Re: Killer new slide

Interesting. I usually use either my index finger (like a barre chord) or my ring finger, depending on the song. I should probably try to use the pinky instead of the ring finger, tho.
