Thoughts??
I really like the distortion.
The nazgul still sounds so shrill.
Pegasus sounded muffled in this guitar...
I always thought my JB has fat low mids rather than actual deep lows. I like them in the right guitar, but yeah, I can totally get why it may sound "loose" to some. That's just me, though. And now I heard how middy the JB can be, I understand some peoples view on the pickup now.
Djent pickups are aggressive in the upper mids.
I figured it was more in the higher registers. I tried a Nazgul in my seven string and it was so aggressive I couldn't control it. I swapped in a Pegasus soon after.
I know its not a gain monster, but I would really love to hear him put the screamin demon in one of these comparison videos.
That's one thing I don't get about this and the previous vid like this he did. He included the Full Shred, which only has a DCR of 10k, IIRC, but didn't include the Screamin' Demon which is also a 10k pickup. I've used the SD for high gain stuff, and it's great for that stuff. And I also think he should've thrown the Perpetual Burn into the mix.
I honestly think they should have done every pickup in the line up. Yeah, its a lot of work, but well worth it in the grand scheme of things.
I was surprised to hear the Pegasus was even more scooped than the Custom 5 too.Another observation: from this video, the Custom 5, which alot of folks say is more scooped than Hetfields Mesa on,"And Justice For All" actually sounded more full in the mids than either the regular Custom played before it, or the Pegasus.
Not really... its a targeted vid... this is a vid for high gain guys 99% of high gain guys dont care what a SH55 or a A2pro sound like under high gain. So instead of forcing you to wade through a sea of clips they try to narrow it down to the pickups most guys doing this sort of music are interested in. It makes sense this way. Doing a clip of every pickup in every style gets to be a monumental amount of work for little pay off.
Could even be detrimental, you post a vid like this of the antiquities doesnt matter if it sounds good or not you will get a portion of the people who are interested in those pickups complaining "i dont play this style of music! you cant hear anything with that much gain" and possibly turn them off from purchasing the pickup.
You will never make every one happy with something like this so you just go after the lions share, Personally I think Merrow has a knack for making everything sound very similar. The guy can make playdoh sound good but isnt my favorite for highlighting the differences between things.
