Knopfler Guitar & P/U's in video clip? Sultans Sound~

Besides to be gifted with his fingers & talent (and gear), would the Antiq. Surfs be the best bet to approach that 'Sultans of Swing' type of sound that Knopfler gets in which is presumably that #2 or 4 position? What about Antiq. Texas Hots? Go to a strat forum and talk about Sultans and stand back and watch - it like a nest of angry ants:eyecrazy:

On a more serious note, it could well be the middle position that was used for that song. But any early 60's/late 50's type pickup will get there. Truthfully, although the surfers are the closest Duncan does, they don't get as hollow or airy as Fender's offerings. I'd choose Fender Fat 50's myself - I had a set of these when I had Both Ant sets in other guitars, and these nailed the 'Vintage accurate quack' better than either IMO.

I didn't watch the vid......I was assuming he was talking about the original recording, with an additional sentence asking another question about what was used in a specific live recording.

You know, I was at work so I had the audio off, but I saw which guitar he was talking about and assumed it was Sultans that was being played, but it's not. Oops.

Funny thing is that his signature model had Texas Specials in it.
