Know of any good Funk CD/Book Tutorials?

Been looking for something but it seems all I find are book/CD packs that give differant rhythmic examples over one chord and one chord only. I know that's important but I'd like to find something with more of a variety. Any suggestions? Thanks.

between james brown and george clinton .. the books been written .. and written well.

Also sounds like you might want to take lessons in theory .. and apply those lessons to funk.

My advice is to learn all the james/george tunes .. and keep that right wrist loose!

Al McKay from Earth Wind and Fire has an instruction tape on Star Licks...I'd buy an Earth, Wind and Fire CD instead tho and just play along with Shining Star, Fantasy, Getaway, etc.

Really tho: just listen and play along with Jimmy Nolan, the inventor of funk guitar! He was James Brown's guitarist on most of those early classics.

Maybe the finest examples of funk guitar after Jimmy Nolan would be the Meters!

I'd rather have the albums and CD's of those masters to play along with rather than a CD of lessons...

this looks pretty good.. if ya like the james stuff. and yes .. nolan is great.

ike & tina had some killer funky stuff too .. masquito's tweeter.. etc..

for newer stuff..there's some funk on the first couple RHCP lps thats great and H had awesome style.. and the first 24/7 spyz lp kicks too. great cover of jungle boogie. Jimi Hazel has got some serious chops.

You know another good CD to get and just play along with to get the funk? The Average White Band. Pick Up the Pieces, I Got Work To Do, and many others are funky classics with tons of classic funk riffs.

Go watch the Wooten brothers play ... it's like going to Funk University!

Defintely get a hold of some Meters stuff, P-Funk too - most of the P-Funk cats were hot!.

Riff Interactive has two funk cds. I can't personally recommend either one because I haven't seen 'em, but their stuff is generally pretty good. Funk and R&B is my thing, it's what I do best. It's not really hard at all, it's just a feel more or less. Sometimes I think either you have it or you don't. I've known some great players that could smoke my a** up one side and down the other, but they couldn't play a funk groove if their life depended on it.
