Koch Pedaltone and Aphex Guitar Exciter

Re: Koch Pedaltone and Aphex Guitar Exciter

I tried the Guitar Exciter last year at NAMM, and was so impressed I bought one on the spot. The optical compressor sounded great too. I just got a new amp, and am about to rig up a pedal board, so hopefully it'll sound good with all of that stuff.

Re: Koch Pedaltone and Aphex Guitar Exciter

I've owned a Pedaltone now for 2-3 years. It's built like a tank and it does what it's supposed to. I've taken it on auditions where I couldn't bring my full rig and it sounded great even when run through the loop of a POS SS amp.

The one thing to keep in mind is that it sounds like a Koch. That means crystalline cleans, great edge of distortion grind, and over-the-top gain that can be either smooth or brutal. The one thing it doesn't do particularly well (nor did my Multitone) is crunch. The "power tube distortion" feature helps but if you're a fan of Marshally tones, this may not be your piece of kit.

If I had a better alternative as a backup "amp", I might sell the PT but the fact is that I'm too lazy to schlep another head around "just in case".

Thanx for the replies guys.

I'm not really in the market for either of these pedals, but a friend of mine uses a Pedaltone with his Marshall Silver Jubilee and he's looking at adding an Exciter pedal to improve the cleans. So I just thought I'd ask around to see what people thought, as I've never used either pedal myself :D
