Korean Import Guitars

As much as I love my Gibson Les Pauls, I gotta say that some of the imports that are available nowadays are really catching my eye. In particular, the Agiles. Talk about great bang for the buck. I've got one of the pre-lawsuit original headstock double cuts and I have to say its the nicest looking, and one of the best playing / sounding guitars I own. With some upgrades (Seymour Duncans), they really are great guitars. I may pick up on of the 3000M series LP copies.

I'm also real impressed with the Korean PRS SE's. I got my wife a Santana SE and Soapbar SE and they play wonderfully.

Anyone else have the same experience?

Bang for the buck, yes. Total bang, probably not.

Even so, I wouldn't put a PRS import up against an American model (I've owned both). I don't know enough about other brands (e.g., Epi/Gibby) to say for sure but I'm not confident that I'd say that imports are better than their domestic counterparts. You might occasionally find one that knocks it out of the park but it takes a significant anomaly to overcome the disadvantage that imports typically have in terms of materials, hardware, and electronics.

I have had the same experience with my ESP LTD viper-400. This guitar is wayyy more than what I expected for $560.

If the imprt guitar is from their custom shop,esp custom shop,or others,You have a great guitar coming,if it has Seymour Duncans,even better than great-spectacular.Again it's the custom shop,or hand built guitar you want from overseas,

I think ur absolutely right expecially when u compare the schecter C-1 classic to most guitars twice its price you'll notice that many times the import wins hands down

I have no problem with imports, as long as I get to play before I buy.

+1 I've tried about 4 different Viper 400's and all 4 were really nice. I don't know about every import these days some that catch my eye are Dillion, LTD, and a few others. The Hamer imports I have tried are excellent for how much they cost, they beat any epiphone IMO.

+1 I've tried about 4 different Viper 400's and all 4 were really nice. I don't know about every import these days some that catch my eye are Dillion, LTD, and a few others. The Hamer imports I have tried are excellent for how much they cost, they beat any epiphone IMO.

The Dillion I owned didn't hold a flame to the PRS SE I owned, let alone the US-made PRS models it copied.

I guess it depends on what you're comparing: a MIM Strat is a lot more likely to compare to a MIA Strat than a MIK PRS to a MIA PRS if only because PRS has more money to put into materials selection and QA.

Seriously though, import guitars are getting so good it's scary. Anybody see the G& L Tribute series? How about the Schecter Diamonds? My MIJ 62RI Strat owns all other strats I've played, including Roadhouse, Deluxe, Ultra, and 40th Ann. models. :burnout:

Bring on the sweet lo-cash guitars. It's good to know that even if all my stuff is stolen, somebody somewhere has a already-made Schecter C1 with Duncans, or an ESP with some EMGs I could pawn or something....

well, i probably wont go for another korean/chinese/indonesian guitar in quite some time.. i got enough **** with the epi i got, while it's superb sounding, it's not the player i would like it to be

Do you mean tonal qualities? Nay, Korean girls usually have too much treble, but they usually sound good with most humbuckers :smack: :laugh2:

Seriously though, import guitars are getting so good it's scary.

The same thoughts here, too. I've recently played two guitars that made me go HMMM... There was a Dean V'79 (it's only the electronics that I'd change but if I add the Duncan factor in mind, I can see, hear and feel a helluva guitar) and an LTD Hybrid (that comes with the p-up I'd put into it as an upgrade: a JB bridge, by default). Nice work guys over there :bigthumb:
