12 of 30 Lmtd. Edit .Hard Rock Cafe 1999 Gibson Flying V with case. I've heard of the Goo-Goo Dolls, but I want their rediculous sigs off my V.. I am gonna try goo gone.
Compared to the 1200.00V(w/case?)I played at Guitar Center this month, this one is way more substantial in weight, although its not heavey by any means .Don't tell me Gibson is weight relieving new V's, which are plenty light enuf!??
Anyhow, I like this. It lost some of that magic tone when I Lowered the action, but oh well.
Im afriad its a keeper.
I'm not used to babying ,my guitars. This one is pretty much mint.Guess I'll have to be x-tra carefull. Actually, you can play V's on your lap, but only Segovia style.
I had more fun takeing off that 'silk' from the cover of the guitar then removeing the prom queens panties!!
I gave the guy a peavey T60 guitar ( nice one actually) and a Peavey T-40 Bass plus 140.00 Cash. How'd I do?
The guitar is near mint. No dings, some swirls on the back.

P.S. Don't tell me to take the decals off. That would destruinate the valubation.

Noone wants to play.. boo-hoo! :-(

Re: l@@k What the Darn Heck Followed me Home From N. Austin, TX. 2Day

Right now, here is a quarter past 8 (am) and I've just logged in so, sorry for the delay! :9:

That being out of the way, OMG, yep yep yep and, hoohah!, all at once :D

That looks absolutely gorgeous (minus the sigs/doodles that is) and I can totally understand you how removing the "silk" would be better than the pants (even though, technically we didn't have a prom queen whose said pants I could remove in order to be able to fully sympathize :p).

And no, the decals HAVE to stay, especially that flame one!!!

And, if I were you, with that guitar I'd totally sacrifice the lowest string height for a more wicked tone ;)

Re: l@@k What the Darn Heck Followed me Home From N. Austin, TX. 2Day

Taking those signatures off will prob do the guitar some good.

What can i say good about the goo goo dolls?

UMM...

They use alternate tunings...

thats it.

Re: l@@k What the Darn Heck Followed me Home From N. Austin, TX. 2Day

Im such a jhergoff. Its cause I try and make out by being such a cheap bastid. The stupid sigs wouldnt come off with goo-gone.In fact i messed up the clearcoat a little.
Im hopeing it all can be buffed out by machine.
If not, what the hell..a couple of cheap ass Peaveys and 140.00/
I had my suspiscions.
I should know better.Waht gets me is I guess he did the research and found out the sigs would not come off..or else he tried .But if he tried he sure didnt mess up anything as it looks as if I did mess up the clearcoat a bit..unless he was able to buff it back out. I dont know.

Re: l@@k What the Darn Heck Followed me Home From N. Austin, TX. 2Day

yeah those sigs gotta come off

but awesome nonetheless

nice score

Re: l@@k What the Darn Heck Followed me Home From N. Austin, TX. 2Day

If they used a Sharpie take it to a buffing wheel, any chemical that'll take it off will cut the clearcoat. Goo Gone shouldn't have done any real damage.

Looks all right but the stickers gotta go. 2 Peaveys and a buck forty doesn't sound too bad for a good V.

Re: l@@k What the Darn Heck Followed me Home From N. Austin, TX. 2Day

Goo gone and goof off are xylene based and xylene will cloud laquer. I learned that the hard way as a young painter working around vintage furnature.

You should have tried naptha and elbow grease first. You might be stuck with it unless you can find someone who will wheel the cloud out and reshoot the laquer. You have to be careful about using solvents on laquer guitars. You can clean an import poly hguitar with almost anything but Gibsons can be very unforgiving.

Re: l@@k What the Darn Heck Followed me Home From N. Austin, TX. 2Day

I've never seen a V like that before. The body style is 67', and the pickguard shape is 58' style. Nice mix. Kinda like the decals. Nice axe, man, good job.

Re: l@@k What the Darn Heck Followed me Home From N. Austin, TX. 2Day

Radio station here in Tampa Bay gave away one of those too. Your's is the 4th one I've seen. the other two were on Evilbay and I didn't follow those auctions to the end. I would guess being autographed and a contest giveaway it is in the $1000-$1500 range. I'd say you got a deal. :9: :scratchch :approve:

Re: l@@k What the Darn Heck Followed me Home From N. Austin, TX. 2Day

dude just rub it with a cloth dipped in alcohol!!

RobertS, if your still about- can the small damaged araeas be resprayed with lacquer, or does the entire guitar have to be sprayed?
If its the whole guitar, yes, I will just have to live with it as do not want to respray the whole guitar.
One good thing I guess.
It was gonna be a Prima Donna..a "closet queen".. now she a rocker!

What Duncans...what Duncans? Hmmmmmmm??????

Jerry........ don't worry about it and just play the bloody thing!!! It would do for me anyway.

Re: l@@k What the Darn Heck Followed me Home From N. Austin, TX. 2Day

THat looks great! I'm not a big fan of Gibson V's - not pointy enough for me, I prefer my Jackson Rhoads. But that V of yours, particularly the colour, looks awesome!

Yeah the signature looks crap, but it'll probably wear off on it's own over time.

Re: l@@k What the Darn Heck Followed me Home From N. Austin, TX. 2Day

I'd say you done really well.

Re: l@@k What the Darn Heck Followed me Home From N. Austin, TX. 2Day

well lick my balls and call me your mother. that thing is beautiful

Re: l@@k What the Darn Heck Followed me Home From N. Austin, TX. 2Day

Try using a dry erase marker over the permanent marker. Frank Lee did that and it removed stuff naptha would not.

Thank you.
