L.R. Baggs X-Bridge - Install and wiring questions

I'm close to deciding on whether or not to get a LR Baggs X-Bridge for my strat. I've got a few questions for anyone that has experience with this unit.

1) I am getting the Vintage style to match my MIM 6 screw bridge. But I hear that the screw spacing is slightly different. If I have to fill the existing holes and redrill is that difficult?

2) It seems that it can work without the preamp. How does it sound without? I could purchase the tremolo system and add the preamp later.

3) What's the quality of the tren system itself? It has to be better than a stock MIM... right?

Those are some immediate concerns. I'm curious how I will incorporate it into my current wiring scheme. I'll have to add a switch or additional pot. I don't guess that is very difficult.

I can't help you with most of your question, but I can tell you that you want the pre-amp. I had a T-bridge, which is the TOM version of the X, installed on a guitar. The tech I brought it to had worked LR Baggs stuff for years, and strongly, strongly recommended I get it done. I did, and it sounded great.

Good luck with the process!

usually piezo pickups sound weak, quiet, a bit harsh and have very little bass without a preamp.
