Lace Pickups Alumitone Deathbucker?

Re: Lace Pickups Alumitone Deathbucker?

I once had an Epi Korina Explorer. The stock pickups were ok, an Epi Alnico Classic and Classic Plus. The guitar had great acoustic tone, so I wanted a pickup that would translate that without coloring it. I also wanted it to be a brutal metal machine, so that meant something powerful, but I didn't want to go active.
I got a set of Deathbuckers for it. They were perfect. And even more versatile than I had imagined.

Wow, and I thought I had girl hair lol. But I've never heard a Lace pup in person.

Nice rhythm tone, that neck tho was pretty bad

I used a regular Deathbucker in the neck position with no problems.

Does these deathbuckers have any copper or... dunno... coils? With 5K resistance and high output, they should be made by aliens.

They have one coil made up of the aluminum and then what appears to be a tiny transformer with a few winds of copper. It is quite an unusual design.

Which is why the standard Alumitones goes in the neck.

I also found the lead tone to be blur , it doesn't cut , cause the deathbucker is not bright enough to be in the neck spot .
The X-bar is a fantastic pickup for the neck , and the Deathbar is great in the bridge .

Demanic got to it before I could say anything, but given that the coil is built into the magnets and you can't really mod the transformer, they are very SD unfriendly.

I understand how they make the Alumitones, but I have no clue how they made the Deathbucker sound any different. I heard on the Lace forum that they didn't change the magnets, but then how did they make any change? There's only so much they can do to that tiny transformer.
