Laney amps at NAMM...

Re: Laney amps at NAMM...

They look pretty good GT. I like the trim and grills, a bit of a Voxy look. I really like the throwback Laney emblem. They have Jensen's and G12H's in them. I am interested in hearing them, and hearing about how they are pushing the power tubes harder at lower volumes, and any technology behind that approach.

Great find GT. Thanks. :)

Yes, the styling on those new Laney's are sweet. I'm betting they will produce some really good to great tones too.

I've always been interested in Laney since I discovered Sabbath a few years back and those look rad. They will probably be expensive though, or atleast look expensive.

Re: Laney amps at NAMM...

I wish they were more than 20 watts. Otherwise, I love them.
20 should do the job imho :)

There are Cornford amps with "only" 7 watts but that's the point, you can crank it and if you need more volume you mic it up!

Cool amps, looking quite promising.

I like it loud.

Call it immaturity or whatever else, but to me louder is better.

Re: Laney amps at NAMM...

ok :)

well, depends on the music. 20 watts will be enough for my stuff..Metal/Hard Rock needs more wattage I think.

Yeah, I dont think its so much that it needs the wattage, but to me it jusdt enhances the experience with some music. I respect peoples decision to use 20 watt amps and etc. But its just not for me.

Re: Laney amps at NAMM...

I have a 200watt + amp, and then I have one at 100 and one I am trying out that is about 75 watts...it is not the big one that sounds the loudest!!
It is the voicing and the powertrafo that dictates the punch and loudness...plus how hot the amp is wired!
My small 20 watter through a 4x12 is big and loud....;)

Yeah your right, just in my experiences so far all the 20 watts I have played havent been that loud. But then again, I havent played one through a 4x12.

Re: Laney amps at NAMM...

he only points out the three small ones, whats the stack behind those? Looks like its similar in design

And the other big combo. Could be a remake of the VC's. I guess time will tell.

EDIT: There are new bass amps also: (These have the new/old Laney logo)

So, they other amps in the guitar amp vid may just be VC's repackaged, but there isn't currently a VC head. Questions linger.

Just because an amp is 200 watts doesn't make it twice as loud as a hundred watt amp. Volume is not linear when it comes to wattage. More efficient speakers can also make a lower wattage amp quite loud. Of course Rid, I'm preaching to the choir here. :smack::laugh2:

So don't make the same mistake that Nigel made -- twice the wattage does not make it twice louder!:laugh2:

Re: Laney amps at NAMM...

Would have been nice had the Scot actually PLAYED the thing, instead of rambling on about it for 5 minutes:laugh2:
