Laney AOR?

Hey, I was just wondering what you guys thought of the Laney AOR 100w and 50w heads? I heard they are like JCM 800's with more gain. Also, do they have one channel or two (or are there two different versions)? And what is the difference between the ones with silver corners and the ones with black corners, if any? (yeah, I know I phrased that last one pretty poorly, but you get my point)

Re: Laney AOR?

I have an 85 or 86 50 that just rocks. I don't like the hi gain channel but the low gain channel dimed is spectacular. Extremely similiar to my Plexi RI. You have to attenuate and crank it to get to the gain but once you do it is extremely organic and open. The low gain channel only uses 3 pre tubes while the hi gain channel uses 4. I did a couple tweaks to mine. On the input jack tied into a resistor there is a 470 cap that I clipped, I added a 100 pF to the volume pot and also clipped another 470 ( pretty sure it was this value) cap on the board between a couple resistors. This made the amp fuller and warmer and a bit punchier. I am really loving this amp.

I have the 6 knob version, which has the mid bass and treble boost on it. On the low gain input I pull the mid boost ( way too bright on the hi gain channel) set the bass to 10 ( not boosted, a bit to boomy, great on the Hi gain channel though) and pull boost the treble which adds some upper mids. Of the three boost pots the mid has the most range, the rest are pretty subtle. I have never played the 8 knob dual channel head so I don't know what works and what doesn't regarding cap changes. This amp has suprised everyone that has heard it live. They love it. I have posted a couple crappy clips but will soon try and get a better sounding one up. I paid 220.00 for mine and don't plan on selling it any time soon. Here is a link to the clip.

Cool man, thanks! Sounds pretty cool. But, do you think it would do metal ok?
