Laney GH100TI

This is a Laney tube head, the Tony Iommi signature amp.. I found one used, or should I say almost not used at all, for about half the price of a new one. I am a rock/metalhead (which I read this amp basically shines for), but I wanted your opinion on whether it's a good tube head or not..so, is it worth it?

Would I regret buying it?

Re: Laney GH100TI

All I can tell you is I like the head. I cannot control your feelings. You need to like the sound of the amp to like the amp.

I have the GH100L and couldn't be more happy with it. You don't have the option of switching the last gain stage with the TI, it is always on.

Take your guitar to the amp and play it. Then decide.

EDIT: Also check to see what power tubes are in the amp. My amp is very nice with EL34's in it, but with 6L6's, it is incredible.

This amp is very transparent, in that it picks up all the nuances in your playing especially at higher volumes. E.g if you were playing a solo this amp will make it hard to cover up mistakes. It's not that type of distortion. Imagine a kind of early Van Halen sound but alot darker and harsher, and you wouldn't be far from how this sounds. It's got a nice think chunky crunch, but dont expect any modern type distortions it just doesn't do it. Personally i'd say it was a great tube head for what i do. But i'll just say the sound will be more like "Kill 'Em All" Metallica rather than "Black Album" Metallica.

Re: Laney GH100TI

Did he use it on his new solo record? because some of that riffing is friggin' heavy, sounds so good.

Re: Laney GH100TI

Yes, he used it on his solo album. Iommi uses the exact same rig in the studio as the one he uses when on the road.

Cool.. I'll get myself one of those I think.. I found a site where's it's pretty ****ing cheap from new. About 900 bucks, or 864 bucks if you choose to get it yourself instead of them sending it. I think I'll have it on my christmas wishlist, lol.
