Laney TX2 or Randall RG75DG3

Which one would you take? (I`ll take one in a week.)

The price tag is more/less the same on both amps, as is on Laney TS300II which is "no effects" amp but is 120W.

My style is mainly built around Anthrax, Ride/Master/Justice age of metallica, Pantera, Slayer, Opeth, Priest...but i love to play AC/DC, Alice in chains, Rush, Zeppelin and a lot of acoustic stuff.

Personaly, I think Laney fits me fine, but i never heard randal RG75DG. But today i played RX120DHS head and crate, and it sounded really powerful.

haha, that link is a guiness book nominee man :)

today i played some hammers through Laney TF300 II - 120w combo and i was surprised by it`s great and present gainy sound. it`s a very sick amp for that money, kinda marshally tone.
dryed of effects which is actualy cool. I think that scoop function and reverb are more effective for me than a lousy chorus and other stuff that TX series have. (delay can sound good).

I didn`t manage to go to the other shop and play on randall combo, but i discovered that it is a G2 series amp, not a G3, so it is a full solid state amp, while this laney has a tube preamp and sound really.....sweet is the word?

I know that Scott uses Randall, and Dime was, but those amps are mucho $$$$ and have completely different circuits, so i don`t compare them in anyway.

Thanks anyway bro, tommorow i go to play randall combo, but this laney really got me today, and that tube preamp is nice to have.

But, if randall have some more bottom to it, then hmmmm. (but i doubt it could differ a lot `cause both of them have 12'' Celestion Seventy 80 driver)

I tried a 100w G3 at a store a week ago. Although it was at low volume levels the scooped tone was extremely tight (large @ss bass, crunchy highs) for such a low volume. I tend to like simpler setups, and shy away from digital on board effects.

When downtuned to D, I have gotten my RG100SC ("G" series number one) to make the Celestion Seventy 80's "fart" out with too much music input. I did notice that the rear of the cab of the newest G3 series is 97% closed in the rear of the case. This may help support the speakers better against farting-out. The real beauty of the Randall company is that they do not care about cork-sniffing vintage tones. I never need a distortion pedal to goose the amp. The tone is that good, and impresses me.

That's a pretty badass price for the RG200.

Remember that Randall screws the back on, so if you want o make it a sealed-back cab all you have to do is make a new back for it.

what is that meant to mean that a company is better cos it only makes amps geared at modern metal sounds (mostly solid state + digital) I like the sound of randall RG50 (for a non vintage amp) and the distortion is warm enough but i still dont see ur point.

I think what he was trying to say is that they don't try to do everything like most companies do.

Yup. That is what I mean. By this years end you will see at least 4 more brands pop up that are geared for the vintage tone/Class "A"/"We build them like they used to...only better" types/hypes of tone. This is great! However, it is nice to see a manufacturer like Randall offer a product in a different direction. The beauty of Randall is that they are going farther into the "modern sound" direction, giving all of us more choice. I did not say that it was "better".

I find it beautiful that when I use my Randall, I am down to four pieces of gear: Pick,Guitar,Cord,Amp! :smokin:
