The VC30 doesn't have as much gain as the LC30, more of a rock n' roll amp than a metal amp, but it has a bit more of a Voxy sound.
I'd could use a VC30 all day long and never complain. Pretty good amp IMO. But then I am a bit "biased" (cathode j/k).
Of course you may go through speaker changes and tube changes to get the sound you are after, but that is normal.

I really can't add anything to what my forums brother's said in that thread Dr.
But, you might want to look up Mattias "IA" Eklundh to see if he has a forum.
EDIT: Both Racer X and Plexi Place forums are really the extent of what I have seen for Laney forums. PG may have his own forum also.

Good clean amps like the VC30 usually are good with external pedals so if u find a good metal pedal or even just an overdrive or eq to drive the OD channel
