Laney VR100H problem

One of my boys has a Laney VR100H and he says it recently started changing tone with slight volume change as well, intermittantly. Says the tone will muddy up for no apparent reason. Is this symptomatic of anything in particular - needs new tubes or? What direction should we be looking here. Thanks!

Always go easy stuff first. Tubes are always a good place to start.

I would say tubes as well. Are the current tubes old?

Can't say how old, we got this from Fatty (Alex) maybe a year + ago and he has played the heck out of it.

It sounds like the tubes are of unknown age. Start with the power tubes. BTW, they need to be biased.
