Last call before i purchase the Deluxe reverb

wednesday is D-day for the deluxe. Any last calls on rants about fender amps, yada yada....or a good alternative for the deluxe reverb.

I just want an amp that has an amazing all tube clean channel, no more than 50 watts.

If cleans are your primary focus, the Deluxe reverb will work well for you. If it's a Hot Rod Deluxe-- I don't really care for the dirty channels on it so much. But it's nothing that a Tube Screamer, or good OD pedal can't remedy. Good Luck.

Re: Last call before i purchase the Deluxe reverb

I suppose it depends on your definition of clean. I think of the Deluxe as clean, on the edge of breaking up.
As with a lot of tube amps, the amp can be set up cleaner, or dirtier, depending on your choice of tubes, biasing, and speaker choice.
The RI can sound a little bright, but it's a versatile amp, and certainly has its fans.

I'm assuming you're buying one 'cause you've played it, and you liked it, right?

The DR is a great clean Amp providing you don't need to play it to loud. I would say once the volume gets over 7 it tends to get a little to muddy for my ears. For medium to small Gigs it is my favorite Amp. I will buy one eventually. This Amp with some modulating effects like Delay, chorus and a good OD pedal is a very powerful setup. It will be hard to be for Blues and rock! Good Luck with it

How much are you going to spend? I have an old 68 Fender Pro Reverb that has now been rendered useless by my new Two Rock. New speakers, all new caps, new resistors where appropriate, new reverb tank, new foot pedal and all blackface tone (even though it's a first year silver face)

Look no further,
The Deluxe Reverb is the ticket.

Re: Last call before i purchase the Deluxe reverb

with good 6v6's in it, would a deluxe cop a good SRV tone? with a strat that has antiquity II's in it...and a Spina modded TS9...? That's pretty much that quintessential tone im looking for, a sweet singing, wailing or pristine blues tone. (I'll be miking it and powering the signal with a QSC PA and 2 20' Yorkville elite speakers)

Heck, anyone reccommend me a great blues/jazz amp 50 watts or below, single channel for 800 or below that's better than the DR...

Think about that amp Scott has. I basically have the same thing. An early siverface 68 pro reverb drip edge (blackfaced). It is one badas$ amp. Does sooo many things sooo well.

We chatted via PM last night. I've got too much invested in my PR upon further review.

I played my DR this morning. That amp never fails to put a big old grin on my face!

Someone said that over 7 it tends to get muddy. To my ears that's the point where with a Les Paul it puts you firmly in Duane Allman territory; not so much muddy as warm and rich.

Everyone hears things different...but I know alot of folks who found the DR's to have quite a pleasant sound to them!

Re: Last call before i purchase the Deluxe reverb

DRs are a classic amp - that's one reason Fender reissued them!

however, the design pushes the plate voltage on the power tubes, so you need good quality tubes. Fender has compensated in the past with the DR and other amps by biasing them a little cold at the factory to preserve tube life.

some folks thought the EHs were going to be the answer for the Sovteks, but the EHs also had some problems.
I'm currently running JJs in mine, which can take the voltage, and have a big bottom.

another issue is that it's a 22 watt amp, so it depends on what you're using the amp for. Fine for smaller clubs, but some players think they sound a little like a mosquito in a larger setting. :)

Re: Last call before i purchase the Deluxe reverb

well, i called my local amp repair shop-Reflections electronics- and they gave me the number to this dude Paul who has 3 vintage all tube fender heads. Which heads did fender manufacture-bassman and.....

How much would it cost on average to get a silverface blackfaced?
