Last Waltz Strat

The music and the event don't grab me and neither does adding 10 lbs. of bronze to a guitar.

I do like the idea of moving the middle pickup "out of the way" (this is still an S/S/S Strat, not H/S). I assume positions 2 and 4 are parallel as with a standard Strat two or three pickups in series would be a nice option.

The middle pickup would have to be rotated 180 degrees to fit up next to the bridge pickup. Other than being relocated from its original spot, what effect would this have on tone?

I don't know of anyone that offers a pickguard cut for this. Can a pickguard be modified with a Dremel tool or does the material just gum up and melt?

Thanks.

Re: Last Waltz Strat

You can get a pickguard with that configuration from warmoth. Also 2 strat pups in a hb slot would probably sound good and be versatile but still be stratty. Some guys don't like them in series but I think it sounds good.

Thanks but I double checked Warmoth's website and it is not offered. I've inquired with them before about cutting a configuration that they don't advertise (e.g a Trembucker in the neck position) and they won't do it.

Re: Last Waltz Strat

Buy an S-S guard and cut the larger hole yourself.

Was the original not wired in series? I don't really get moving the pickup, what's the point if it's parallel?

Re: Last Waltz Strat

I just went to the site and selected strat pickup neck, nothing for the mid, and an angled humbucker for the bridge.

Re: Last Waltz Strat

The site says it's not the middle pickup. It's a Left-Hand Strat replacement pickup, rotated around to match the string stagger, which also happens to put the smooth sides together.

I've wanted one of those Robbertson mod guitars since I first saw it, though I didn't know it was bronzed and what all else he did - I just saw the pickups together and thought that made more sense for sound.

Re: Last Waltz Strat

I've actually planned similar sometime in the future: HH routed strat with two single coils neck and two bridge. The possibility of combinations and playability are really intriguing.

It's not just because I find middle pickup somewhat annoying where it is. Position makes huge difference in single coil tone as well. It would allow more "bridge" and "neck" sounding combos as well as tele-like middle positions.
