Hi
A friend of friend has an old Jackson 4x12 looking to sell pretty cheap
I cant see it for a few weeks because the cab is in the country
From his description I think its one of these , or similar .

I don't care for the speaker colour as I need some replacement speakers for another cab with black grill so you wont see the speakers
I'm not sure if there the red or black speakers anyway

Does anyone know what speakers came in these cabs Im guessing Eminence ?

My other guitarist has one. It sounds pretty good.

From what research I did, I believe the Jackson amps and cabs were made by Laney. Supposedly the speakers were either Eminence or designed by Eminence.

It's a good cab though, sounds fairly neutral, and is built rugged.

Yeah Laney I read that too.
If you get a chance have a good listen to your mates cab
If you can compare the tone to any other speaker id appreciate it

Thanks

Re: Late 80's Jackson 4x12

It's definitely not like any Celestion I've heard. Most Celestions have a very distinct sound and they have "missing areas", or more emphasized areas of the EQ curve. For example:

G12T-75: mid scooped
Vintage 30: Upper mid spike
G12-65: Upper mid focus, smooth highs
G12H30: Upper mid and treble focus

In comparison, the speakers in the Jackson cab are clean and articulate, and really lets through the character of the amp. Very neutral sounding in that I can't hear any areas of the EQ that stick out like a sore thumb - like Celestions. They have a good thump in the low end, wide open midrange, and clear highs. It's not really loose, or tight, but it seems to track even fast riffing quite well, and it's not harsh at all.

I haven't met the cab but I know the fitting amp. I have an oddbal collector friend (a Friedman fan) with stuff like KMD, Shiva, a couple of strange factory prototypes and so on. He has one of these. As far as I can tell, never had an A/B test but considering the sound it is damn similar to my AOR head, all the response and "British sponge" type of bite. As I can recall it was wrapped in some pretty similar tolex, too...

I have a Jackson cab....and I run it through a Marshall 15watt tube amp...with an Ibanez tube screamer pedal and man the sound is killer.....regardless of who makes the speakers , they really sound nice and full , distorts nicely, not to crunchy....but....I can make it crunchy if I want too....probably one of my best purchases!....a real steal at $100.00
