Latest Project Done: Tele My Way

Just finished this recently. Some of you may have seen it on other boards. But you can never get too many opinions; canyou?

Specs:

Custom made swamp ash double cut tele body with black top binding.
Custom made black pickguard.
Fender american standard six saddle bridge.
Fralin blues special neck pickup.
Seymore Duncan Jerry Donohue lead pickup.
Master volume, master tone, CTS 250K pots.
4-way switching includes pickups in series.
Neck from Musikraft ordered to my specs (12" radius, rosewood fingerboard, medium jumbo frets, 1-3/4" bone nut, fat back with very little taper from end to end)
Grover mini rotomatic tuners.
electrosocket jack.
Nitro finished body(Reranch butterscotch) and neck(Reranch fender neck amber).

I chose the pup combination based on suggetions here. I must say it sounds great; just not as twangy or airy like a traditional tele. Plenty of meaty tone though.

Hope you like it. Rob.

Re: Latest Project Done: Tele My Way

you probably lost a little twang with the double cutaway design, thats part of what gives a tele its snap. looks cool!!

Re: Latest Project Done: Tele My Way

Sweet looking guitar, I particuarly like the way the body shape is flat in the jack area.

Re: Latest Project Done: Tele My Way

Oh God, I fell in love with two guitars on this forum in two days!

It's sort of like that Fender TC thing but as a tele! Freakin' sweet!

If you put an extra volume knob and an LP style three way switch on there I'd be going into orgasm mode right now.

Post some clips?

Re: Latest Project Done: Tele My Way

My jaw droped the second that picture poped up.

That is the coolest tele I've ever seen!

Re: Latest Project Done: Tele My Way

That's the first tele that I've seen that didn't flat out look ugly . . . . I like it!

Re: Latest Project Done: Tele My Way

I like it, but I'm not sure about the pickguard. The bottom right most part of the pickguard as seen in the first pic just doesn't look right to me. That black binding definitely kicks ass with this finish, and binding on teles is definitely underrated.

Pictures like that are no good without sound clips. I don't want to just drool. I want to slobber like a mastiff.

Hey Thanks every body for the positive responses.

I think it's more the pups than the shape. The neck is really fat and gives good transfer of string vibrations; The whole guitar resonates very well. Good bass response too.

NO clips yet , but i"m working on it. I have another one I'm working on that features 2 P-90s, a tune o matic bridge and volume and tone controls for each pup. ( Try to control yourself)

Nice!

Did you make the body and pickguard yourself?

Thanks! Yea, I made the body and guard and rear cover. Acrylic material from TAP Plastics. I drew the whole guitar in AutoCAD then used those files to make templates. All the routing was done from those templates; no CNC cutting. Lots of sanding.

Don't know about that...I think teles look pretty cool

I drew ALOT of pickguards LOL. Since the controls are different than a regular tele the straight shape of the standard pickguard didn't work at all. I like the way it turned out but it is unconventional. I wanted the black binding because I couldn't remember seeing a butterscotch black guard with a binding like that. And I just like bindings in general.

Thanks again for all comments. All of a sudden I can"t remember how long it took me to make it.:beerchug:
