Learning Flamenco: basic questions

So atm i'm feeling that i can do pretty much everything i want on the electric guitar but i find my accoustic playing a bit lacking in comparison, so i'm wanting to explore something new. I always loved Flamenco for it's feeling and melody and i adore some of those guitarists for their technique, therefore i want to try it myself.
I have a friend who is one kickass flamenco player and who could give me some lessons and he also suggested some books i should get for home training. Now to the questions:

1. Any recommendations of books about flamenco playing?

2. I don't have a classical guitar with nylon strings and i can't afford one right now(don't have the option to borrow one either),also i don't know yet if i'd even need one if i suck at playing flamenco ;)
Would i be very unhappy learning on a regular steel string accoustic for the beginning?

3.Any general tips you guys might have?

Thanks in advance for any useful information.

Daniel

Re: Learning Flamenco: basic questions

Well you got your friend, it is all about watch and listen, and remember that is music for dancers, fiery and passionate and with a good sense of a beat is cool.
See some Paco De Lucia....the man is awesome!
