Lee Jackson's 800s?

Re: Lee Jackson's 800s?

I wouldn't bet against it, though not sure.

I owned a Lee Jackson modded Marshall (JCM 800 2204 from about 1983). It was the biggest piece of S#!T I've ever seen. Gain up the wazoo, but little definition. Fizzy and dull (The amps in the Saxon vid sound pretty good). The workmanship wasn't the greatest either. Very sloppy wiring all over. He not only signed it twice, but there were several 'Metaltronix' business cards taped to it.

One of the few amps I still don't miss.

there's one on ebay, that thing has more holes than a frat boys rubber, and it prolly performs just as well. :banghead:

Re: Lee Jackson's 800s?

I have tried a couple of modded Plexi's and 800s - and sure if you want mick Mars tone, its in there - but I much prefer these amps with a Pedal pushing them.

If you really want the "modded" sound, I think Bogners, Riveras, etc record, and play much better and are more toneful. I think the smaller companies got the idea right.

Else, try the new JVM, Vintage Modern, or Marshall 6100 and Jubilee - from what I know from techs - the circuits were tweaked just right to make them sound good with high gain - ie the Jubilee has a cleaner tone stack and then diode clipping. I don't think you can just slap an extra tube in those amps and get the tone.

If you really want that vibe, do consider the Soldano Hot Mod, it works in an instant, and if you hate it, take it out! total time to install AND un-install = 4 seconds.

A local Birmingham buddy of mine (Damon Johnson formerly with Brother Cain now Alice Coopers guitarist ) had several of those and his ROCKED!!! Those are the only ones I have played and the tones were consistant with what I heard on the vid.
