Do the Leesona winders do something different than other winders? I mean, do they like wind 2 wraps every so often but only count one? Or count two when they only did one wrap?
Is the synch between the feed and take-up spools off such that the coil wire stretches just a hair?
Does anyone know if this is the same Leesona from the Kalamazoo factory? I'm curious as another company makes the fact that their Leesona came out of the Kalamazoo factory as a big selling point.
Thank you all with your knowledge, it's fun to read these posts.
Inquiries into the machine? Since I started the thread, the answer is no reason really. Throbacks have one of the machines from the original K-zoo facility and I remember reading SD had another. So I was curious as to which pickups were wound on that old machine.
I used to live near there when it was Gibson and was curious - that's all.
Oh, and now this gets my post count up to lik 26 or 27.
Although SD has stated that humbuckers shoud not be scatterwound, according to Throback's site 'coils wound on these vintage machines show a complex wire scatter driven by the quirks unique to these machines. They do not show the orderly distribution of wire exhibited by modern computer controlled winders.'
There is no scatter on these machines , I think what Jon was referring to is slop caused by wear & tear on these machines which makes a unique winding pattern
This is the thread i believe ,gives some good info http://www.mylespaul.com/forums/pickups/1308-best-paf-clone.html
