Lefty 1996 Strat with Fender "vintage" pickups w/staggered pole pieces

Hello everyone, my first post, thanks for the support!

My 96 strat has a G string buzz occurring on frets 12-14. I was told that it is due to the raised pole piece (G string pole piece) of the pickup(s). I took it to a tech for the buzz and after a setup, it still buzzes. Has anyone heard of a raised pole piece causing a string to buzz?

You could try lowering the pickups very very low and seeing if the magnets are still affecting the string's vibration. Generally, what is called 'Strat-itis' isn't really a buzzing but weird overtones and loss of sustain due to the poles being too close to the strings.

right. if your pups, neck pup especially, are too close to the strings, then you could get some wolftones or warble.

if the issue is only on a few frets, then its almost certainly a neck/fret issue. if its on frets 12-14, then id look at the frets above that

I could see if it were higher frets 18 to 20
but only in the middle of the board

Sounds like either low 11th fret like jeremy said
or high frets on 12-14

Easy to dress that out

do I do this test with the guitar plugging in or acoustically? thank you.

yes, thanks, I'm trying that now. did I mention that this occurs even when not plugged in?

Well, magnets work no matter if it is plugged in or not. You would have to negate the effect of the magnets to really test this.
