Legacy or JSX??

I`m thinking of getting rid of my Mesa Single Rectifier and picking up one of these amps. I heard samples of both and they both sound good. I just wanted to get some input on what others think. I play at home, no gigs or concerts for me. The Mesa is becoming a single tone to my ears and I wanted to get a more versitle amp that is not to expensive.

If you're just at home my vote goes for the JSX, the legacy is almost too much volume at any setting but does of course sound beautiful. The JSX also has more versatility due to three independant channels, a built in noise gate, and the resonance control, which really allows you to dail in the perfect bottom end. Both of these heads however are geared towards live performance, if I were in your shoes I'd be looking for something in the lower wattages. Even 50 watts is overkill in my books for the purposes you've laid out.

If you're just at home and you want a bunch of good tones, I'd heavily suggest investing in a Tri-Axis and a 20/20 poweramp.

Out of those two. I'd take the JSX. For home use it is a bit powerful. No saying that it cant get some good tones at low volumes. It is more versatile than the legacy. The Legacy is a great amp. Very smooth. Great for vai type stuff, and many others. Its all about the EQ obviously. I just like the JSX personally. The crunch channel is definitely the best. AWESOME!

where did you get jsx clips? i wanna hear it cause i plan on getting it as well

I replaced a Single Rec with a Legacy and have had some extensive tryouts with a JSX. My arguments for your situation:

LEGACY-
Pros: Can be had for very little $$ on eBay, they're an even grand for a new combo. They sound really excellent and they're very fun amps to play.

Cons: They are LOUD!!! Even with the 1/2 power switch The combo a little less so because its only 2x12 but holy crap it'll rattle windows at 3. You'll need an attenuator to actually USE the thing. I run an Airbrake with mine and it's excellent.

JSX
Pros: Very tonally versatile, can get lots of different flavors. Can do everything the XXX does and do it better. The built-in noisegate is cool, too.

Cons The combo version is a little harder to find, and the head does not have a 1/2 power switch. Needs good tubes and great speakers to really shine. The tone is somewhat lackluster in spots compared to the Legacy (the legacy has a much better clean channel). Its a loud amp too but it also needs to be cranked to sound worth a damn i.e. Marshall.

So Legacy at bedroom levels is worthless whereas the JSX can compensate? I like the fact that my Single Recto sounds good at bedroom levels but I need more (less) than just the recto tone.

I used to own a Rectoverb, and like you, got sick of pretty much having only one sound.

Of the two you mentioned, I've never tried the Legacy, but have tried the JSX. To my surprise, the JSX was pretty damn good. I'm a Marshall guy all the way, but this thing had a decent clean channel, while the hi-gain tones were very usable... even a low volumes.

nah still, its the file of the video it wont work on my computer.. but the sound clips were enoughfor me anyways thanks

Wholeheartedly agree. Heck, even the 20:20 is pretty loud. :burnout:
