Les Paul - 2 vol 2 tone with Liberator > Ground question?

Hello,

Recently I've learned how to solder :) Which am very proud of, and finally I can change pickups on my own, and try out different combinations.
I have a Gibson Les Paul Traditional, in which I intend to instal the ''usual'' les paul wiring, 2 vol 2 tone, but instead of the bridge volume I intend to put the Liberator.

The only problem that I have, is that according to schematics from the SD site:
there is no ground wire from the ''bridge/tailpiece'' of the guitar. I see that there is a Liberator ground running from the Liberator itself to the back of the neck volume pot, however I don't see the ground wire from the bridge.
I have no problem leaving out the ground wire form the bridge, and just taping it/isolating it, and tucking it into the cavity, but will that be a problem?
I assume that the SD schematics are correct, but considering that I'm a beginner when it comes to pickup changing, I decided to double check.

The question is:
Did anyone instal the Liberator exactly according to these schematics, without using the ground wire from the bridge of the guitar?
Did you have issues/hum/noise etc... or did it work just fine.

Anyone with experience with the subject please elaborate.

I hope someone finds the time to answer me, and help me.
All the best,
George

Always ground the bridge/tailpiece to the electronics, usually to the back of a volume pot that further grounds to the output jack.

Re: Les Paul - 2 vol 2 tone with Liberator > Ground question?

Thank you for your input.
I understand the point that you are trying to make.
But if that is true then why does the ground wire from the bridge/tailpiece not appear on the official Seymour Duncan schematics?

Could it be that they made a mistake and released a bad schematics for the liberator? Why would they leave it out?

Or is it possible that the ground wire that goes from the liberator back plate to the volume pot is enough?

Please, if anyone has experience with this, help me out.

Thanks.

All those solder pads on the Liberator are Grounds. Solder it to one of those and you're good to go. Yea, I don't know why it's missing from the diagram.

Re: Les Paul - 2 vol 2 tone with Liberator > Ground question?

The good folks at Seymour Duncan do, in fact, make tech mistakes in there diagrams from time to time. Note also, that in that diagram, you must solder the Liberators green/bare wires to ground. I'm fairly certain they aren't connected internally or there would be no point in having them.

Unless . . . the two bare wires are wired to ground internally. That's possible. :scratchch

I keep meaning to order one of these so I can be sure of how this thing works. I think I will as soon as I get home.

Re: Les Paul - 2 vol 2 tone with Liberator > Ground question?

Ok . . . I'm wrong. My Liberator came in yesterday. Those gray wires are connected to ground internally. That diagram is correct.

Sorry Duncan tech folks for doubting you.

Re: Les Paul - 2 vol 2 tone with Liberator > Ground question?

I know this thread is a couple months old now, but I just wanted to point out something that I realized when I was recently replacing the humbuckers on my guitar (using a different SD schematic). I first thought the same thing about a missing ground connection for one of the components.

Note the little legend below the title of the diagram "LIBERATOR AS MASTER VOLUME Les Paul set-up." The gray circular blob that says "Solder" indicates a location for ground connections. Anything that needs to be grouned in your guitar can be soldered to one of these points, including the wire under your bridge.

They didn't make a mistake with the diagram, but may not have included non-electronic components in the diagram to make it look a little cleaner.
