Les Paul JR. Case ... again

Re: Les Paul JR. Case ... again

I've had a chainsaw case and an SKB LP case and both fit the Jr just fine

Re: Les Paul JR. Case ... again

Is the junior that much different than a normal LP
I know the body is a bit thinner and there is no carve on top

Re: Les Paul JR. Case ... again

What is wrong with an actual Gibson case or something like an SKB?

Re: Les Paul JR. Case ... again

I have a LP Tribute in an SKB case. The thinner body of the Jr. causes the neck to not sit flat in the neck cradle so it sits up at an angle. Same goes for an authentic Gibson LP case. Meaning, closing the case can force the lid to exert pressure on the neck. It can be remedied by folding a T shirt or soft cloth under the back of the guitar to effectively increase the body thickness. But the bottom line is that Jr's don't fit right in LP cases.

TKL is supposed to have two cases that fit the Juniors but reviews end up mixed as to whether they really fit right. TKL 8824 and 7824. They are always back ordered. Gibson factory Junior cases show up from time to time at hugely elevated prices.

Thanks

Les Paul JR. Case ... again

I have a LP Special...I think it’s dimensionally the same as a JR. I’ll have to check the fit of the case. It’s a factory Gibson case. This guitar has never left my house so it hasn’t spent a lot of time in the case.

If it's a case that came with the guitar, I'm sure it's made to fit.

I see. What about adding a foam pad under the guitar? You may have to trial fit a few cases

The Jr. is in a cheaper case, but fit is the same as the SKB. I think I may try some case surgery and fit a thin foam pad underneath the existing case lining. Worst case scenario is that I end up uglying up a cheap case.

Take a look at the chromecast case
I got one for my daughter's lp
It has a ramp at the neck heel

I think they are all ramped at the heel. But that doesn't help with the thinner body.

The case it's in is a cheap Musicians Friend case. It's just has a formed styrofoam insert in the bottom and the lid that is covered with some plush, black fabric. I managed to get the entire bottom insert out and pull back the fabric. Cut a piece of thin foam to sit under the bottom half of the body, spray glued it to the styrofoam and then spray glued the fabric back. Test fit the guitar and glued the styrofoam back into the shell. It's still a sh*t hardcase but the Juniors neck sits in the neck cradle now and it will work fine until I find a better case that fits. Or, if I ever find a better case that fits.

Re: Les Paul JR. Case ... again

Just wondering if you ever found something that worked. Just picked up another Junior and having to use a shirt to lift the body is a bummer. I will confirm that a chainsaw case fits fine.

My Les Paul Lite OEM case is much thinner than my other Les Paul cases. I wonder if one would work for you guys.

What do you think about this one? TP , made in UK.

Re: Les Paul JR. Case ... again

I have mine in Roadrunner molded LP carved top cases. I got them because they were on sale through the Guitar Center Website, two for 100 bucks, some years ago. They are crummy cases (and have an obscene number of latches), but I put my Jr. and Special in them with no extra padding, and they fit fine enough for me. I even used to keep my Melody Maker in one of them, until I got my Special. That, being about 1/4" thinner than a Jr., fit a bit loosely...but it was still fine. I gigged with it. My biggest gripe is the unnecessary "bubble" on top of the cases, which is a bit annoying if you have a bunch of guitars. It causes the cases to be unstackable, or to always have gaps between them and the next case when they are put on end.

I would just order one of the TKLs and wait it out. I believe they make one with an extra neck support, and one without.
