Les Paul NECK pickups???

Re: Les Paul NECK pickups???

^^
Really, after all is said and done, they will know your views when... well, you know.

Re: Les Paul NECK pickups???

I Aint no BOY youngster . Why doesn't somebody just explain the rules in regards to the 2nd amendment here (And my life experience) and how exactly I infracted something . I may be good for this Forum and maybe Reciprocally .

The 2nd amendment? The right to bear ARMS? HERE? This is a forum about guitar pickups that is INTERNATIONALLY accessible, not just in the U.S.. Forgive me if I'm wrong, but that not only sounds political but that sounds like a threat. Both of which, as you'll probably soon find out, are not tolerated here. Another thing you also just did was talk back to a moderator when he told you to cool it.

I think what you meant to say was the 1st amendment, the right to free speech, so here's a few suggestions: don't get political, don't start personal beef, don't disrespect the people that run the forum.

Quotes the movie Crossroads ("Muddy Waters invented electricity"); learned about blues from a Ralph Macchio movie? Mixes up the two best known Amendments to the Constitution. And is ready to start throwing punches. This is priceless.

Khead - when I'M hitting a thumbs up at Blueman…time to reconsider…..

Re: Les Paul NECK pickups???

THIS ENDS HERE!

I Aint no BOY 36, been playin' much longer than that . Could somebody just explain the rules in regards to free speech / 1st. amendment here and how exactly I was out of bounds so bad that I get threats (above) from a forum chairman/Mayor ?
I may be good for this Forum and maybe Reciprocally . what was the exaction of the Infraction ?

If you came here to pick a fight you picked the wrong place to do so.

The First Amendment doesn't protect you here as this is private property. The Seymour Duncan User Group Forum is neither the government nor are we, as admins/moderators, agents of the government.

You insinuated violence upon another member of this forum after needlessly bickering with said member over an apparent lack of knowledge in musical terminology. Your posts in other threads are similar in tone.

If I here ONE MORE peep about this in the public forum you WILL be taking a vacation from here.

There is no clique. There are rules. Don't break the rules. Simple as that.

Re: Les Paul NECK pickups???

the rules are really simple. be respectful AND nice or leave. that goes for everyone.

Re: Les Paul NECK pickups???

Back to the question,
The best and brightest and way non muddy Neck HumBucker pickup I have ever used is the ElectricCityPickup Mike Bloomfield bridge pickup @ 7.7K in the neck. Made by Bill Megela (hope I spelled correctly).
Call him. He is a magician and a nice guy who knows pickup magic.

Re: Les Paul NECK pickups???

Not sure I'm smart enough to parse the first post but anyway.

The Stag Mag won't do it because the Strat pickups with the rod magnets are actually very boomy and bassy, they just normally gets balanced in by the sustain block in a Strat's tremolo. A short scale guitar with a fixed bridge kinda ruins it. The Stag Mag also has two rows of rod magnets which should do some impressive damage to each other's magnetic fields.

In general, if somebody has problems with the neck pickup in a Les Paul the Screaming Demon should be tried. They get traded for fair prices on Ebay so they are easy to flip, at least for US residents. The hex screw row causes the pickup to be significantly more assertive than the PAF polepiece combo and it can un-boom the neck position.

Also see Artie's de-boom circuit.

Re: Les Paul NECK pickups???

The StagMag is the way to go, with a triple shot ring or push pull. You get the best of both world neck pup. In HB mode it is a very respectable LP A2 tone.
In SC mode it is true Strat Spank.

No. I've put Injector Necks and various other singles in fixed bridge, short scale guitars because I got tired of muddy neck buckers, and they sound fantastic, not boomy or bassy like said neck humbuckers. If you can get past the cosmetics of an adapter ring with a single coil in it where your neck humbucker route is, I'd recommend it highly.

A split stag mag isn't exactly a single coil, because the magnetism of the other slugs right next to the active coil DO affect it, but it's going to be about as close as a split bucker can get.

Re: Les Paul NECK pickups???

when it comes to simple, straight up 'full' humbuckers, I'd go with the jazzN for super-clarity. The sentient for an all-in-betweener. The 59/Jazz for a very 3D-ish feel and vibe.

The stagmag is cool, but if you wanna go towards the 'odd humbuckers', I'd go with a prails+triple shot.

Re: Les Paul NECK pickups???

JazzN or 59N with an A4. Can't get much clearer than that. Oh wait, an unbalanced HB wound to 9.5k overall (don't ask me what the wind or tension etc. is) with an A4 that's in the neck of my orange Strat copy. That thing is clear and full bodied.

Re: Les Paul NECK pickups???

dimarzio gravity storm seems glassy and rounded and stratty to me at low gain, then at high gain it sounds like michael schenker

I Agree A4's the Bomb for Neck , puttin' one in my next Personal Build (maple body from the old Homestead)
Had one a Long time ago in an 71 SG neck (thru a 76 JMP) and I loved the balance it gave ~ Forgot to pull it out when I sold it : (

deleted one was a repeat of this message

That would be worth trying as a bridge PU in an LP.
