Les Paul pickguard color

symptom

Hi everyone. Taking a closer look at my recently acquired Epiphone Les Paul, I've noticed that the pickguard color is a little different than the mounting rings color. Is a little lighter cream.

Is this normal? It bothers me a little...

Re: Les Paul pickguard color

Ive seen epiphones with different colored plastics before. If it really bothers you, just do like most other les paul players do and just take off the pick guard. Otherwise, just learn to live with it I say

Did you buy it brand new? If it was used, the plastic could have discolored based on light exposure

That's what I did, I took it off, leaving those holes exposed.

Now that you said, I bought it used, so the previous owner could possibly be using it without the pickguard, causing the difference in color.

Re: Les Paul pickguard color

Differences in plastics colours on Gibson go back to the 50's - so its vintage correct.

Re: Les Paul pickguard color

I bet the previous owner left the guard in the case for 99% of it's life, so that isn't faded but the rest of the plastics are. Granted Epi plastics can look pretty weird compared to "real" Gibson colors...
