hey peoples i myself play punk blink-182, green day sounding music i have played fat strats but recently i really have taken a liking to les pauls, but anyhow i wanna know what you think :reporter:

Both will easily do it, i much prefere strats myself, but theres no reason why you can't use a paul for pop punk. Blink used both, and i greenday used strat types with bridge humbuckers for most of thier pop-punk music.

Lately Green Day has been using Les Paul Jr. type axes I believe.

What you need is a Fat Strat, in blue, covered in stickers, with a maple fretboard. And duct tape around the strap to keep it in place. And then...I think Billie Joe uses a JB...a JB at the bridge, and voila! Instant Green Day guitar! Just add random Marshall tube amp!

But yeah, the Strat is much more comfortable then the Paul to some people, myself included, but really any guitar with humbuckers would work for that pop-punk kinda music. blink-182's guitarist used an Invader bridge pickup on his Strat, now he uses the Gibson Dirty Fingers, and Billie Joe uses a JB humbucker at the bridge. Any of those should get you pretty close to their sound.

My guitarist used a Hot Rails loaded Strat, it worked very well... Strong, and a full sound since he was the only guitarist.

One thing to think about, how does your bass player play and what kind of tone? If he uses a bright tone and plays licks and runs rather than repeating root notes, the LP might give your band's sound more girth.

Punk tone is whatever you want it to be. And there's a million ways to do the fat humbucker into a distorted amp sound.

But in my opinion, spending $2,000 on an LP to sound 'punk' is not very punk...rock what you have and stop bathing for true punk grit.

Yeah, but your opinion of whats 'punk' and not probably means f*ck all to him.

Gibson SGs or Les Pauls are great for rock/pop stuff. I like P90s for the stuff I do, but I don't think they're all that popular with most players (I was surprised to see that Green Day uses them, but on the newer stuff you can definitely hear them).

Guess what? I play Pop-Punk and I own a Fat Strat. I have my strat loaded with an Invader in the bridge. Although my guitar isn't a fender/squier, I got mine from "The Music Store" for $100 because it was beat up (talk about being punk), so now I covered it with stickers. It's solid alder with a rosewood neck. However, I'm starting to expand my style and tone, so I'm purchasing an invader and putting a Custom in the bridge.

Green Day- Fat Strat (Althought now that they're advertising A.I, they use Gibsons) w/a JB in the bridge (make sure it's angled) as seen here:

Blink 182- Fat strat from Flyswatter to Boxcar. In the beginning, Tom DeLonge used a X2N similiar to Billie Joe's (as shown here:

He also used Les Pauls during their early days.

However, consider getting a LP. Eventually when you want to start doing guitar solos, an LP will not let you down.

I am a traditionalist. I like Sta=rats with 3 SC and I like my Gibbie's with 2 HB. I have both so I can pick the right Axe for the piece.

I was messin around at GuitarCenter the other day and was curious about how a deluxe tele would sound through a mesa single rectifier. I plug in and wow... I fell in love with the tone. The tone was very GreenDayish. I would have never guessed that a tele would sound as good as it did through a high gain amp. I never gave a tele a chance until that day..... I then realized I've been missin out..... :)

I'd say strat if you can't afford to get Les Paul, it'll thicken up your tone compared to the generally thin tones heard in punk.

same same. its all just 8th note power chords.
Any solid body with a humbucker will do the job.
Just use the one you like the best.
