Re: Leslie Alternatives.......

I had a Alesis NanoVerb that had a Rotary speaker sim That was pretty cool.

Re: Leslie Alternatives.......

Nope, I use a AB165 Bassman driving a Fender Vibratone.

That's the real Guitar driven Leslie tone that everyone is looking for!

Re: Leslie Alternatives.......

motion sound makes some cool stuff

i have a rotosphere and it works great. i run a two amp setup and the h&k sounds pretty realistic. you have to play with the controls to get the sound that you want, it took me a while to get the rotor speeds where i was real happy with them. now i have them set where i want them, i think it works great.

Re: Leslie Alternatives.......

From what I'm reading, the Rotosphere sounds great, but it's big & noisy if not in the loop....2 of my 3 amps have no loop.

That said, I have a Replex which was very noisy until I swapped out the tube for a NOS Mullard ECC81. Now it sounds fantastic.

I'm wonderring if the same could be done to the Roto???

Jeremy, have you changed the tube in yours?

Re: Leslie Alternatives.......

yes.
i tried a few tubes and i liked the sound of a westinghouse 12ax7 best.

im using mine with '66 fender dlx reverb so no fx loop and mines not too noisey, but it wasnt with the stock tube either. you might have gotten an iffy tube in the replex

Re: Leslie Alternatives.......

It wasn't horrible, but it was very noticeable before & after the tube swap. I already had the tube, so it wasn't bad.

Thanks for the info:beerchug:

Re: Leslie Alternatives.......

Linda, Lisa, Lorraine....but Laura is my all time favorite to the Leslie. I've had bad luck with Leslie's.

Re: Leslie Alternatives.......

Our keyboardplayer uses the Rotosphere with his digital Hammond-wannabe Oberheim, and it sounds very realistic. I haven't tried it on guitar though, I'm the bass player in that band.

Re: Leslie Alternatives.......

I tried out the Boss RT-20 at NAMM...I was very impressed with it. So much so that I think I'm going to get one and test it out at home with my rig. It's actually got more control than a Leslie...you can vary the fast and slow times, and the ramp speed. And it has overdrive, and four different modes. Plus, the lights look damn cool!

+1 on that. I have a foam-rotor Leslie pulled from an old organ that I bought on eBay for $25. Gonna build me a Vibratone, but with a 12' - so I guess that makes it a Leslie Model 18. Best way to get Leslie sound is with a Leslie, but that's wasy for me to say - I never play outside the house.:laugh2:
