Let's gather some info on 1x2 and 2x12 cabs suitable for metal

The amplifier will be a 15-30 watt tube amp, most likely a Randall Diavlo RD20H.

What are the best cabs for that power and if the cabs are open or closed back? (I'm looking at closed back 212 cabs.

Are looking to record or play live?

I've seen the 2x12 Zilla fat boy which handles low end frequencies very well but it depends what type of metal you want to play

The Carvin VX 2x12 looks similar to my older VE 212 with British 12s in it. Pairs great with my JCM800, though it will also make a TripleRec sound very Marshally. If you need mids, and you need them now, and you need to cop those classic Metal tones, that's probably gonna get you there.

You can run the VX open, closed, or half-open by removing the port covers over the speakers.

Orange, Emperor, Mesa, Laney, Jet City. Those Jet City vertical 2x12s are cool. If you're in or around Atlanta I have a clone of an Orange PPC212 that my friend built that I'm trying to sell... haha.

I'm planning between the regular horizontal Jet City 2x12 and the V30 loaded Laney 2x12. The JC has some Eminence speakers I know nothing about.
You ever tried those? I have to say I've never tried a Laney cabinet I liked but I'm open for anything.

I know i really like V30s and i know i like Eminence Swamp Thangs and Manowars. I thought the vertical 2x12 had V30s in it too? Always try before you buy but i prefer the look of the Jet City.

I had an Avatar 2x12 w/Eminence Red Coat speakers. The guy who bought it from me is in a RJDio tribute band, and he loves it as much as I did.

Build your own. It's alot cheaper if you have the tools and knowledge. You can build it to whatever specs you want.

Void free Pine makes one hell of a cabinet.

Peavey makes a good vertical cab, the MC212. It's got two Celestion G12K85 speakers in it stock, and they sound great. It's slant front, and you can remove the top back panel to make it half open. It will run one 8 ohm input to fire both speakers, or you can run either speaker separately in one of the 16 ohm inputs. You could also run two different amps, one each into a 16 ohm input.

Anything with V30's seems to be good for that kind of sound. I like them in the Orange cabs.

I always liked that old Genz-Benz G-Flex 2x12 cab. I wish that was still around.

This is what I was going to recommend. I have one and it is killer!

I think you can still find them used on eBay, but I think prices have been creeping up.

My favorite 2x12s that I've owned were the Bogner OS2x12 and my current Friedman 2x12.

But that matching Randall 2x12 to your Diavlo kicks major a$$. I've got a couple of buddies who did the RD40 heads with the matching Randall cabs and those cabs have awesome punch. In fact, one of them had been using H&K 2x12 cabs, but I bugged him to try the Randall cab and once he did, that's the one he gigged afterwards.
