Liberator Question...

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I picked up a Liberator for a guitar I'm in the process of refinishing, and I was wondering if the Liberator can also be used as a tone pot?

Has anybody else had any experience with it? Thoughts? Opinions?

It will absolutely work, but keep in mind . . . you're using a Ferrari to deliver pizza. ;)

Lol! Yeah, I'm with ya there. My whole reason for this is two-fold:

1) I've been interested in getting inside a guitar;

2) I've had the Star since about 2007-ish. It's a basic black with a white pickguard, and I was getting really bored looking at it. It's a very uninspired look, and I wanted to see what I could do to bring a little bit of life to it.

I changed the strings on it back in June, and it hit me that, in the entire time I had it, I don't believe I had ever changed them (the strings that I took out were strings that I've never bought). It got me thinking about the rest of it.

So I just took the idea that, of the three guitars I have, if I'm going to strip down one, use it as a guinea pig for a first attempt at finishing and replacing guts and hardware, I'd rather risk a $75 piece that's simple to replace than screw up and lose something bigger. Ya know?

On top of that, I'm really just looking to give it some life for me. I don't gig, I don't play publicly in any form or fashion. I just sit down and play at home or at a buddy's place.

Cool. And also keep in mind . . . it doesn't matter if you use the potentiometer for volume or tone. The "no-solder" system still applies. The Liberator makes a great tone control.
