Liberator Wiring

I've searched high a low for a wiring diagram, but have had no luck. Here's what I'm looking for...

Single liberator volume, 2 humbuckers, 5-way super switch.

I'd prefer to keep Ibanez RG-type switching, meaning:

1.) bridge humbucker
2.) inside coils of each humbucker
3.) both full humbuckers
4.) neck humbucker, in parallel
5.) neck humbucker

Can anyone help me out here? I'm installing a Nazgul / Sentient set into my Ibanez RGD7321.

Thanks!

Re: Liberator Wiring

Welcome to the forum.

If there isn't a ready diagram it's probably because you are attempting something unique or that, surprisingly, hasn't been done before or not very often. Know that you are taking on the risk of modifying your guitar, and since most everyone on the forum are guest/volunteers, not Duncan employees, liability, etc., rests on the guy with the solder iron. But wiring isn't permanent and shouldn't be that hard, so between all the guys on here I'm sure you can get it working how you want it.

I have not tried what you are doing specifically so I'm using my experience to draw up what I think will work - however I do not have a Liberator or Super 5-way in hand to do any tests with at present. I would strongly advise a second pair of eyes to look over this drawing and check my work before proceeding. There is every possibility I accidentally connected something in the wrong place or the wrong way. I would also encourage trying the wiring using alligator clip wires to test it will work before getting out the solder iron.

All that said, here's my best shot at it. Anyone else with experience should jump in and make corrections if I've got something wrong.

Re: Liberator Wiring

I just saw something that I think will not work. Having the bridge red/white on the switch and going to ground on the same side. It may not be possible to get all the combinations you are asking for without an extra switch or push-pull somewhere. Sorry about that.

Re: Liberator Wiring

Thanks for the input. It's somewhere to start. I may just purchase a 3 way switch and bypass all the custom stuff. The more I think about it, I basically use this guitar for full-bore metal rhythm, and nice cleans. I really don't need, and probably won't use, a "quacky" parallel setting for the neck, or the inner coils.

Re: Liberator Wiring

Actually, what you're wanting is pretty simple since you have a Superswitch. You just need to follow my "system". The bad news is . . . I'm just swamped right now. Can you give me a day or two to cover this? :)

Re: Liberator Wiring

I just thought of a tricky way it might be possible also. I won't be available to work on drawings for a few days, however.

Re: Liberator Wiring

Take your time. I appreciate it. I still need to buy a soldering iron and supplies....and get the balls to begin soldering myself. This will be the first pickup swap done myself. Hence the fact I'm going with the liberator. I tend to change pickups quite often depending on my application, and quite frankly, I'm tired of paying techs to do work I know I could do myself with a little practice.

Re: Liberator Wiring

I would assume the main tricky part will be how to wire the Liberator. The selection settings is how my guitar is currently set up, and is how most Ibanez RG series guitars are wired, so I know it can be done without adding custom push-pull pots. How to properly wire it up to the Liberator, and do away with my tone pot, is where I'm lost...

Re: Liberator Wiring

My tricky idea didn't work out. The problem is suddenly going neck parallel coil in position 4. It requires putting white to ground and red to hot. In all my drawings I run out of common-to-tab combinations to manipulate the wires. Sorry about that.

Re: Liberator Wiring

I'll be honest...setting 4 doesn't necessarily need to be in parallel. Basically, I have a 5 way superswitch, and I'd prefer to utilize it rather and replace it. I guess I'm not sure what I could have position 4 do...

Re: Liberator Wiring

I am also looking for diagram of liberator setup w2HB- 2volume 2tone and 3way switch (5way if possible) but this is a slowly developing product i think and i havent even heard of being able to do a full wiring setup without soldering this way yet.

Re: Liberator Wiring

The original wiring you want could be achieved if one uses a number of jump connectors... I'm gonna mull over it a bit.

Re: Liberator Wiring

I'd even go for this option....

Position 1 = bridge humbucker
Position 2 = inside coil of each humbucker
Position 3 = both humbuckers
Position 4 = ouside coil of each humbucker
Position 5 = neck humbucker

Would that be easier?

These are very novice questions I know, but since this is my first foray into wiring myself I want to arm myself with as much information as possible.

Re: Liberator Wiring

I can think of a way to wire
1.) bridge humbucker
2.) inside coils of each humbucker
3.) both full humbuckers
4.) neck humbucker, split
5.) neck humbucker

but I can't draw well enough...

EDIT: Oh wait, I just realized something that complicates things further.
