Well last night was the first gig with the little baby mesa boogie express 5:25.
Had some new power valves earlier in the week but hadn't had chance to try em at full volume till last night.
Must say the little thing held it's own really well, and I'm also starting to understand more about how it works.
Whoever said that Mesa's change their tone relative to how each control is set was bang on. Turning up the volume does not just make it louder, it also starts to saturate the bass more, even at only half way.
I only used the one channel all evening using the volume control of the guitar for less gain and my trusty new valve sporker for when I needed to really make the guitar scream (which is not very often, but just every now and then).
At first I didn't think it was loud enough next to my nutter drummer, but when I moved out front I actually ended up turning myself down.
In terms of thickness of tone (important in a three piece) I think it's got it. Ok, the Ashdown probably still wins, especially at higher volumes, but the little mesa has better basic tone and responds better. I always found myself turning the gain up on the ashdown to make it sing, the mesa sings all the time.
