so i was talking about getting the Ashdown MAG 300 head with matching 4x10 but now a new option popped up and i love what i'm getting now.
Today a friend told me that he's selling his backup bass rig consisting of a Warwick Profet 3.2 head and some kind of Hughes&Kettner 4x10 and he'd sell it for 400€(He Paid 250 for the head new and 350 for the cab used).
I met with him in the afternoon to try the whole thing and was really impressed with the sounds i was getting with my six-string. The head is pretty basic but sounds good and the built-in compressor works without tone suckage.
Now i took a closer look at the cab. It's in great condition and apart from a white sprayed-on chainsaw on the grill(he's in a grindcore band and thought the cab looked boring) it's great. Switchable horn with different levels, speakon jacks along with 1/4's, really heavy(close to 50kg) and great sound led me to believe it was some of the higher end H&K stuff. A close look gave me the model number: BC-410 H.
He doesn't care for model numbers and specs as long as price and tone are to his liking so he didn't really know what he owned.
I left with the impression that the price and quality were right, but now to the really good part:
I researched the cab's model number and guess what i found. it's a Bassbase 4x10 with 600W Power handling and was sold for about 890€ when it was still available. This turned out to be one of the best bass cabs out there and it's in the same league as H&K's custom line. He didn't know what he had and didn't care for it,and i'm getting a killer cab at an even better price(the head is also in the price).
Probably will pick it up on Saturday and will take pics.
Just had to share a story like this.
