Lil 59 - bridge or neck?

Recently got a Lil 59 for my strat and was wondering what the popular opinion is: is this pickup better in the neck or the bridge? Originally I intended it for the bridge but some videos I saw are making me think twice.

Either way will work. I've always liked a Strat with a neck bucket...against the mainstream, I know. A lot just depends on your style of music I think.

I've seen guys use these in both slots of Melody Makers and Mustang/Duo-Sonics to really transform a "student" guitar into something special.

They make a neck Little 59 and a bridge Little 59, so I'd put it wherever it's intended to be. For a long time I had three bridge Little 59s in a Strat because the guitar shop only had bridge models, and the guy said they were just a little louder so I said wth, ok. In hindsight, a bridge Little 59 was too muddy and fat in the back end for the neck spot, but I usually used the neck and middle the parallel mode anyway, so it was all good.

I use a neck version and bridge version in their respective positions, with a Screamin’ Demon in the middle…

No problem, except from jealous guitar players who don’t own this setup….

Re: Lil 59 - bridge or neck?

I put a Lil' 59n in the neck of one of my Strats and found that it was WAAAYYYY warm and tending to be muddy. And I generally really like warm neck pups. But I can only imagine how muddy the bridge model would sound in the neck. No sir. Not for me!

I have my neck lil' 59 permanently wired for parallel and that sounds pretty darn good (still pretty warm sounding, but that's what I like).

So, if I were you, I would try it first in the bridge position and see how it sounds to your ears. It's not a big deal to move it to the neck if you feel it would sound better there (I don't think that would be the case, however). You may even want to try it parallel in the bridge and see how that sounds to you.
