Lil 59 Or Hot rails? Help

I am in a band back home (college) which is a punk band and I'm looking for a replacement for my stock Tele bridge which isn't holding its own. I need something that has thick distortion but is versatile so I can use it for many different styles of music. If the jb was able to be in a Tele style it would work but I'm having trouble picking between the Hot rails Tele or Lil 59. All help welcome

I'd go Hotrail. Although JB Jr sounds like the one you really want. Not convinced that the Lil 59 will be aggressive enough for you.

There is quite a difference between the Hot Rails and the lil' 59, and in the stock tele range from SD there isn't anything in between. I know this is the SD forum, but maybe check out DiMarzio's tele choices?

Re: Lil 59 Or Hot rails? Help

For thick distortion, Hot Rails are my choice. Add a switch to put it in parallel for cleaner sounds (which isn't as good, but neither is the clean sound on the JB Jr).

Re: Lil 59 Or Hot rails? Help

Gonna second what others have said–JB Jr is probably what you are looking for. I love the Hotrails and they are a great suggestion too...just think you are really looking for the JB Jr.

Re: Lil 59 Or Hot rails? Help

except they dont make a jb jr for tele. get a hot rails and put a series/parallel switch in. push/push on the tone control would be my first choice

Re: Lil 59 Or Hot rails? Help

Had no idea SD doesn't offer a Tele JBJr...

Odd,to me,anyway...

+ another for checking out some DiM offerings.

If I'm not mistaken, Seymour originally designed the JB for a Tele. I know that SD doesn't make a Jr for Tele. Can't understand why not.

After going back over the specs... I see that the 59 may be hotter than I thought. Yet cool enough to run clean too. The voicing is flatter than the Hotrail which has an emphasis on the midrange. The flat voicing makes it a bit more versatile and transparent for use in almost every style. Also wondering what your neck pickup is? If a stock single coil the 59 should balance better. If a full size HB then maybe the Hotrail will balance better. Too bad they don't make an in between model at SD.
My personal Tele has a GFS Lil Puncher 15k bridge pup. Split it sounds like a good strong Tele coil and in full mode it rocks. Plays cleans well without cutting the volume. And is dead freekin quiet! The 60 cycle hum in split mode is barely audible as well. Very impressed. Best $30 tone investment I ever made.

Re: Lil 59 Or Hot rails? Help

(dissenting opinion alert) I have a Tele that had a Lil 59 bridge, it never "did it" for me. I replaced it with a Dimarzio Tone Zone for tele and it totally woke the guitar up. I didn't want "twang" at all, just good rock tones. I wired it up with a coil split, but use both coils 99% of the time... Split it pretty much sounds the same, just quieter. Oh yeah, I had a cheap Tele rail bridge pup and it stunk, but for the less than $10 I paid for it, I shouldn't have been suprised... "Real" SD rails should be much, much better! I tried a Tele with a "Hot Stack" that was ...nice, but real dark sounding.

Re: Lil 59 Or Hot rails? Help

a buddy of mine puts hot rails in the bridge of everything he owns and he doesnt play metal. mostly classic rock and blues.
