Lil 59 vs hotrails for tele

I love the tone I'm getting out of the tele and single coils but am missing the crunch and lack of hum I have with other guitars

It's for an ash tele but it's not all that bright for ash

How do these two pickups compare?

I still want it to sound natural and not super fizzy and am looking for something versatile that can go from a tool/isis type crunch to a cutting tone like mars volta if that helps

Re: Lil 59 vs hotrails for tele

I've used the Hot Rails in a Tele, and a lil 59 in a Strat. There is nothing fizzy about a Hot Rails, more of a massive sledge hammer crunch. The lil 59 is certainly more PAFish, although not in an exact sense. If you have a lot of gain on tap with your amp, either should work. However, you may prefer the Hot Rails if you want a more over the top sound, and hot buckers split well if you want to clean up the sound...although I'm not familiar with Mars Volta.

My tastes run toward the lil 59, but if you want something that'll really kick things in the behind, you may prefer the HR.

Re: Lil 59 vs hotrails for tele

I had a lil'59 at the neck of one of my Tele's for about a year and a half. It's an alder body with a full size Pearly Gates at the bridge. It sounded good but the PG was much louder. I put a Hot Rails at the neck a year ago and it balances out with the PG just fine.

*Edit: The Hot Rails I'm using is the one for Strat.

Lil 59 100% The HR for strat is better than the tele version. But I play evrything from clean riffs to extreme gain with mine and you just cant beat it. It sounds better than my les pauls sometimes.
