Limba with maple cap?

So, as stated in an earlier thread of mine, I decided to sell all my guitars and get a custom one....

the last week I 've been looking up all kinds of stuff and playing a lot of guitars, to determine the specs of this custom build....

anyhow, I decided to get a white limba body and neck with a pao ferro fretboard. I'd like this guitar to have a fairly warm tone but this guitar is going to be a shredder, so I don't want it to be super warm... now limba is a warm wood, so a limba body and neck would make it quite warm, the pao ferro would add a little bit of brightness to it, but is this going to be a lot? since I never had the chance to play a limba guitar I don't really know... would a maple cap be any good on it or would this make the guitar too bright? (I know this is very subjective, but plz give me your 2 cents :)) I like the tone of a mahogany body and neck with a maple cap...

Re: Limba with maple cap?

Dont take this the wrong way. First off, dropping a lot of money on a custom guitar and going with an exotic wood combo is what causes most people to hate their warmoth builds or whatever. Tried and tested works.

Thats just my little disclaimer and warning for you, lol.

Having said that, limba with a maple cap should be ok.

Re: Limba with maple cap?

Do not fear of the woods, there are no bad woods!

Limba is close to mahogany with more bite or a hint of more brigthness or high mid. As you said, it's very subjective. There are lots of things in between like pickups, eq settings, strings, the way you hit the strings etc.

Warmoth mentions in their site that the flat tops do not influence the sound, only the thick carved tops. If you like a maple top then have a maple top. You have made a nice selection of woods, don't change the limba neck for a maple neck. I had pau ferro in an Anderson Drop Top and I like it.

These clips have a Warmoth Les Paul with limba.

Re: Limba with maple cap?

ok, thx for the info :)

Still one last question: they put a maple top on mahogany guitars to get rid of the somewhat nasal sound, does korina also suffer from this nasal sound?

Re: Limba with maple cap?

Thank god someone actually calls it "Limba" this time.

Im not sure what you mean by nasal sound. I was always under the impression maple caps were used on solid mahognay bodies to add some spank and brightness.

Re: Limba with maple cap?

it has to do with the upper mids from mahogany or something like that :)
