Line 6 FM4 is too wild - any other ideas?

I want some cool sounds in a pedal. Just different, usable tones to get organ like sounds, rotary, wah's etc.

The FM4 is too wild and Synth like. I am keeping it, but I need a more viable option for when I am the ONLY guitar player and still need to have a recognizable 6 string tone.

Any ideas? Something versatile!

Yeah, that filter modulator is whacky. I don't exactly need to sound like Tron.
I wish the Rotosphere II wasn't so damn expensive, because that's the one pedal I've always wanted to buy. I'm also interested in the Moog pedals, but they're also pretty pricey.

I have an FM4 at the moment and love it. Though I dig the ehx bassballs and digitech synth wah just as much. But then again, I'm after bizarre, non-guitar sounds. In fact, I've kept away from rotary speaker simulators precisely because that's what most regular guitarist reach for when they want to sound like another instrument. I went through a big 70s fusion phase and really got into trying to sound like 70s analog synths.

I also got some pretty cool non-guitar sounds out of the 'filtron' patch on the Korg AX1000G. I'm sure you could pick one of those up for next to nothing...

yeah, rotary speaker (leslie, vibratone), chorus, phaser, flanger, univibe and all those other effects are on the Line 6 MM4, not the FM4...I have an MM4 and I can mimic an organ sound amazingly! really works well when I'm jamming and there are already 2 other guitarists...then i can just play organ

Hell no. That's the first thing the typical imagination-retardant guitar player reaches for when they wish to try and sound like another instrument. level one stuff.

Plug a guitar into a bassballs, with the drive switch on, and watch your audience's brains melt. I used to play the keyboard parts to Sly Stone's 'if you want me to stay' with one, and it was like napalming the room. Not for the faint hearted.

the ring mod on the boss ME50 is fantastic. Very 3d and a huge improvement over the poor tracking line 6 offering. I got rid of mine for the same reason. The wah is very nice as well. If the unit did not have a brief singnal cut when you switch patches, it would do just about everything I want.

Some of the coolest pedals I've ever played with were Z Vex Probe pedals, like the Tremolo Probe, Fuzz Probe, and Wah Probe. They certainly aren't cheap, but the theremin plate makes those pedals really come alive. You just hover your foot over the pedal, and the theremin magnetic field is disturbed, allowing you to do some cool stuff in real time.

The tremolo probe seemed the most like an actual theremin, because you can swell the volume, and accentuate things with a normal guitar tone. The Fuzz probe is really wild too. I'm not sure I care for the wah probe, simply because I like a regular wah instead.
